Yay. Looks like after all that, all I had to do was cycle the power on the set top box. So no power to lnb. The switch on the front didn't switch between On and Standby so killed the mains and now it does. So is now playing in the NPVR desktop app. Hope it lasts.

Thanks for the help and sorry for the trouble.

btw a little request is when going to Scan Channels, would be good if it could retain the previous setting used i..e the previous satellite, LOFs etc.

Yay. I'm getting this again but doing the above (cycling power thing) doesn't seem to fix it.

Like in post #5 it has good signal strength but zero quality. Can I assume that does actually mean good signal but lots of interference ?

Does that imply the dish hasn't moved or anything like that, more likely something stopped working ? If the LNB is failing would these be typical symptoms ? Splitter failing ? Bad connections even though nothings been touched ?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum but figured people would have a pretty reasonable idea round here before I (possibly) pay for an expert to have a look.

If you can post the logs, I can check if there is any obvious problem listed (like signal strength etc)

It doesn't continually show the signal quality (because some devices are very slow to query it), so you can't see how it fluctates over the duration of a recording, but it does looks like it starts out low in those logs.

If you got a example recording I can download, I can tell if it's missing packets due to reception errors.

I haven't recorded anything for a few months. With what its doing at the moment it won't pick up the dvb-s guide or play anything in the web app or the desktop app.

Yeah, its sounding like you don't have an decent signal.

The log indicated it didn't lock onto anything:

I’m guessing your dish has moved, and just not providing a good signal. DVB-S tuners are a little more likely to fail than other tuner types, so that’s a possibility (higher voltage circuits for driving LNB etc ).

Maybe try with the software that came with the device, to see if it finds channels.

Possibly, or maybe all the moss on it is interfering...which I could try to clean off, thus guaranteeing that it gets moved.

Don't think it even has software, just a driver.

Anyway, I'll see what I can find, and at least there's an IPTV alternative for most channels nowadays, which helps...
