This just dawned on me.  So, with the Colossus connected to the STB, and then the Colossus also connected to my pc, i would not have a need for the hdhr3-cc?  Is this correct?

You could do that. Personally I'd only use the Colossus for the premium channels, and use the hdhr3-cc for everything else.

The hdhr3-cc is much faster to tune channels (since it doesn't have to deal with blasters and encoding delays etc), and it has three tuners (so 3 channels recording at a time). The colossus is only a single encoder (so only a single channel at a time).

It depends on how many channels you want to record at the same time, how much you could get for the hdhr3-cc if you sold it, and how much live TV you watch for recordings the tuning time isn't an issue.

I made this video to give you the idea of the tuning speed and the issue with the STB. I could delay recording to hide the display of the channel change but this makes it "feel" faster.

By the way this is analog SD out using a basic HD card not an HDPVR.
