Got it.

After doing a fresh OS install and NextPVR, I am finally able to stream live TV.

Thanks for the help.

To clarify things did you do it with the deb installer or did you have to manually install the nextpvr user?

I used the debian package that you created.  I copied/pasted the curl and dpkg commands straight from the installation documentation, just to make sure I did everything correctly.

One thing that I noticed doing this fresh install is that the recording directory has ACL permissions set.  That may have been why NPVR wasn't able to initially write to the temp file location when starting live TV.

I use two drives in my system, an OS drive and a DVR storage drive.  The storage drive contained the previous recordings and I didn't want to mount it to the default recording/temp file locations.   After installation, I got to looking at the permissions on the default directory and saw that a setgid and ACL were being used, so I just had to duplicate those settings on where I mounted my storage.    Just as an FYI, it might be a good idea to add that tidbit of information to the installation instructions, or WIKI.

Thanks

One other item that frustrated me was the groups settings.   I have always created multiple channel groups, one being "HD".  For some reason, I can't create a HD group, it had to be called "HD_Channels".  I don't know why, unless HD is a reserve word or something.

The install issue was you likely because you installed as root. The installer tries to create a ~/home/userid/recordings folder because that is what sub requires. root doesn't have a home. folder. Because the folder didn't exist, sub defaulted to Windows defaults which raised my concern about the the install probably other things went wrong too.

I believe the permission information is already reasonably documented https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.ph...#pid524823 I just have to move it to the wiki and of course users have to read it.

I just created a group called HD on linux added a few channels and it worked fine.
