It does already support channel numbers from the bouquet (BAT) or the network (NIT). The UK/Freesat implementation is proprietary though, so different to other implementations.

I did experiment with it in NextPVR in the past, and managed to read out all the Freesat region and channel number information, but I didn't get as far as updating the NextPVR UI to allow selection of a Freesat region.

Hi Sub,

Sorry, I hadn't realised you are the dev behind NextPVR! I have to say I'm impressed! I've been using it for a few days now and I can say that the picture quality is definitely better than TVHeadend, just a couple of little niggles to make it a perfect replacement, Channel numbers and long channel changing times. The long changing times seem to be because on TVHeadend it kept the tuners on permanently and it seems to take up to 10 seconds to start the tuners.

Graham I'm not specifically using Freesat or the Sky version of Freesat, I'm basically tuning any channel that isn't encrypted on 28.2E, so I've worked from the the Sky channel numbers.

Thanks

Dave

If you've got 'keep digital tuners primed' ticked on the Settings->Devices page, then it should keep the device active after first use, giving much quicker startup times for second and subsequent uses of the device.

The time to tune a device can vary a bit depending on the drivers (and possibly the capabilities of the hardware). I've got some digital tuners which change channels in less than a seconds, and others that take 4+ seconds before they start delivering data. DVB-S tuners are often the slowest type of DVB tuners, with drivers often try several different combinations of settings while trying to lock a signal.

If I'd been in the UK, I'd probably have been more motivated on the Freesat channel numbers, and would have resolved it by now. It is still on my list to revisit.

LOL! I have read that repeatedly and always read it as pinned Smile I thought it meant keep them as the primary tuner, oh well, i have ticked now, will see how it goes, thanks.

I can understand that as it's harder for you to test if you don't have the signal. If you do want to experiment with it and want a tester then I'm happy to volunteer.

For completeness ... Simply stated, NextPVR does Live TV by recording the broadcast stream to disk and then playing the recorded stream from the disk to the screen ... Pausing and rewinding Live TV are available because the broadcast stream is being recorded to disk.

Inevitably, the recording and playback process adds overhead to Live TV.
