Tipster,
Thanks for the reply. I'm headed to work now, but I am going to try this when I get home tonight. I am crossing my fingers!

jds,
the play_nice_start and play_nice_end options in the comskip.ini file only throttle back the priority of the comskip process during the hours you specify so that it doesn't take too much CPU. Their position in the file should not matter - I was just reporting my experience. Tipstir's postprocessing file should work great as well. Good luck!

Bucko,
I went to the Sage website that provides all the details on the comskip.ini file and now have a good understanding of what should be in the .ini file. The .ini file that was unzipped from the wiki site did not have a lot of the features included in it. I found a post on the forum with somebodies .ini file and I am going to use that to see if I can get it going.

Do you know why I can't get the OSD to show up on my recorded shows when I hit the blue remote button? I have seen a few posts saying to change to overlay or VMR7. I am currently using VMR9. I am going to try and change that as well. I don't have a problem with live tv, only recorded shows??

thanks again

tipster,
I have the Hauppauge 150. The .ini file that was unzipped didn't have the:

output_default=1 to generate the .txt file

I wasn't getting any .txt files created, so I hope adding this to the .ini will solve that issue. It doesn't say what the default value is. Maybe the default value is 1 and I am having other issues, but I am hoping the default is 0 so adding the line of code and changing the value to 1 will solve the problem

Anyway, I found a .ini file posted and I am going to go with that to see if I can get it up and running. I will be home shortly to try it out.

Ok, this is ridiculous. I've read every post I can on this issue, tried everything stated to do. I can still not get a .txt file to be generated for any recordings.

Can somebody please tell me how to run the comskip.exe file manually in dos mode?

This shouldn't be this difficult. I've got the latest version of GBPVR and comskip. I just want to be able to skip channels with a single remote button, rather than skipping fwd, fwd, back, fwd....

Thanks

You should be able to run, in dos mode, this:

Code:
cd c:\path\to\comskip\exe\folder
comskip c:\path\to\recording\recording.mpg
That should be it, I think. I haven't tried it, though, so...
When I run comskip I do it with the default ini-file. The only thing I changed was the PAL/NTSC setting into PAL...

I've been having the same problem with comskip not generating any text files automatically. Here is my manual fix:

Open the videos folder and navigate to the video file
Right click the file
Click on "Open with"
Click on "Choose program..."
Click on "browse"
Find the comskip.exe file in devnz.gbpvr
this should open the file in comskip and you'll see a black DOS screen while it is running.

After the first time you run this comskip will show up as one of the options to open an mpeg file when you right click it.

Hope this helps.

Someday I'll try to determine why it doesn't work automatically for me but for now this is working.

Jdsnov73 and dgeezer, just out of curiosity, how long after the program has been recorded do you check for the .txt file? And do you check if comskip is running after your show is recorded in the task manager?

I don't know exactly how long it takes for say a 1hr recording, but on my P3 800 mhz system, I usually find that the .txt file is generated after an hour because it takes comskip that much time to analyze the .mpg file.

I usually know that comskip is running by checking the task manager. I also find that if i access the .mpg file too early or if i am low on disk space that comskip doesn't run properly and it doesn't generate the .txt file either.

So bottom line Smile, if you haven't done this already, record a t.v. show, then, wait at least an hour before you access the show in the Recordings section or observe the task manager for comskip to run.

Jdsnov73, did you click on the Fix hauppauge remote option in the config app? Does OSD come up if use the keyboard keystroke combination? Ctrl-B?

Yes, that's correct. That's all that's necessary.

jdsnov73, definitely start with trying to get comskip to run from the command line first. I'm not sure what the trouble is for you, but if it's not running from the command line it's not going to run from the batch file or anything else.

And just so you know, when it's run from the command line it write output to the screen like crazy, so if you don't immediately see something, it's not working. There won't be any question about whether it's running or not.

I've never found this to be a problem. I often watch shows just shortly after they've been recorded, or while they are still recording, and comskip runs fine once the recording stops even so. If I'm watching a show while comskip is running I can't skip commercials until it's complete and I've started the video again, but I've not run into any trouble with comskip failing.

Good luck

Just for the record, comskip doesn't work for me either. I downloaded it and followed the instructions and it has never worked I also tried adding xrecord to see if the command showed up in the postprocessing.bat and it did. Still doesn't run. At this point I really don't care to spend any more time looking at it, just wanted to pipe in and say that I have the same problem. It's probably good that it doesn't work since I am running a really old CPU
