I think this might be an ExpressVPN problem since nothing I try seems to work with split tunnelling. This is all just me testing things, my eventual aim will be to have nextpvr, plex and a bittorrent client running from a NAS to serve all my devices in my house so I will just have it all running through a VPN. But thank you for all your help.

Perhaps the trouble is the service, it could also be NextPVRService.exe. During you testing maybe stop the service and run NextPVRServer.exe standalone and see if that helps.

So here is the nextpvr logs in various states, VPN off is a no response (basically means connection is being blocked at the ISP level which happens with these sorts of streams), one with split tunneling on (NextPVRserver.exe although I get the same error no matter what I choose) and finally logs with the VPN on but tunnelling turned off which plays the channel perfectly.

If your ISP is blocking your streams that explains why the VPN works and why I won't reply after this. When it works you are getting a different redirect from the source with this error
" An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions" which is also different when the VPN is off. You might need to route DNS too.
