Yes, I agree - it's not playing well for me either.

It's an unusual file for USA with H264 video. As Martin says above, is this an HDHR Extend?

Using the same old SiliconDust "HD Homerun Prime" which has a 3-tuner cable card provided by Comcast. Been using it since the early days of Windows 7. Also using LAV filters which are older if that is of consern. Also about a week ago had a major Windows 11 OS upgrade which caused a lot of problems with a couple of my devices .. mainly my printer and scanner. After the windows update I had to jump thru hoops and screw around with various legacy drivers and hacks etc. and finally got my printer and scanner to work with the latest windows update. I'll have to see if something got changed in the HD Homerun Prime environment. FWIW I have since tried a multitude of media players ... and every one plays back all videos perfectly. Very strange situation here.

The PC in question is one of those micro tiny cube PCs made by BeeLink. Has native Intel processor and Intel graphics. I wonder if the HD Homerun might have been updated with the incorrect drivers or bios or something. Around the time of the windows update I also updated a bunch of other things and one of them was the driver/bios or something in for the HDHomerun prime. I'll try to figure out how to check that HD Homerun ? Maybe it's got the wrong bios or something installed? What made you think this was an issue caused by a HR extend ? I'll have to check with Silicon Dust support to see how or even if it's possible I have the wrong drivers or bios etc.

Yeah, a few years ago now, Comcast started doing H264 encoding of OTA channels and then combining more of them into a single physical channel delivered via CableCard. It did have the nice side-effect of greatly reducing the disk space needed to store those recordings. When I went back to the OTA and native MPEG2 encoding, my disk usage went back up.

I doubt that a firmware upgrade on the HDHR Prime would affect the stream being delivered to NextPVR. From a HDHR and NextPVR standpoint, it should be just the raw .ts stream going from the cable to the disk.

Rich: If you play something (ideally from the same channel) that was recorded a while ago before you did the Windows, NextPVR, etc. updates, are you getting the same choppiness? Or does it only seem to happen only with new recordings?

OK QAM. with CableCard you are one of the lucky ones that still work.

The problem is with NextPVR.exe specifiically so I as I said other players like yauiclient will play it.

Rich, can you please try replacing your existing NPVRTSReader5.ax with the one attached? Hopefully it'll fix it for you.

Yup .. I checked and every recorded show done prior to the windows update DOES play perfectly.  Anything recorded since the update has the problem.  For Sub, thanks I'll install reader 5 next.  FWIW, I'm not entirely sure just "which" update (windows or one of a few other updates (like an HDHR Prime drivers etc.) might have caused this.  I'm only guessing it was the windows 11 64 bit update.  Got an errand to run, will be back in an hour and install Reader 5.  Thanks everyone.

checked and found a rare momemt where there was no recording going on so I replaced the existing Player 5 (from the new NextPVR version just installed with the one he just posted.  Eureka.  Now "everything" is back to normal and "all" videos (old and new) play perfectly.  Interesting cuz I check the old player5.ax file and looked about the same (same size, etc.) as what came with the new NextPvr release.  But I removed it anyway and installed the one provided by Sub.  I guess it could be that my install of the new Nextpvr release might have had a problem and the NPVRTSReader5 might have gotten corrupted or something (or) Sub did his magic and moved a few bits around ... <grin>  thanks everyone .. FWIW, I'm just waiting for the soon to be day when Comcast/Xfinity implimentation of more DRM crap will obsolete the whole TV recording system.  In the mean time I'm lovin' NextPVR .. THanks.

Great, glad that sorted it.

That fix was worth doing, and should resolve a few playback issues.

Not quite there yet for me. New version now works almost perfectly. Playback is now almost perfect however I'm now seeing an audio sync problem. Audio lags behind video at an increasing rate over time. Takes about 5 minutes of playback before I can see the sync problem which just keeps getting more pronounced the longer the video is being played. If I pause and/or restart the video then the audio sync goes back to perfect and the sync problem again continues getting worse the longer it's being played. Was looking for my old copy of yauiclient but can't find it. Would like to see if the new version of yauiclient is ready and where I can get it for comparing. Meanwhile last few days I have been trying "all" the normal audio sync available fixes, etc. No joy yet.

The new Windows version of yauiclient is ready but I am waiting for the patch release of 7.1.1 which should be soon.
