Thinking Of Replacing PVR350 with MVP

Its not just GBPVR that has problems with this card, don't see the point in Sub spending all his time trying to get this card to work correctly when it appears to be a Hauppague driver issue

uhm.. sorry. i didn't mean to imply that i do not agree with sub for not putting more effort into this, as this is most certainly a driver problem.

Just to add, that I've not had any problems with the 350 other than the strong output. Its not crashed or locked up. The system is pretty stable as far as I can tell. I've not done anything special, maybe lucky?


The only reason I am thinking about the MVP is the local scart connection and I think being able to watch different things in different rooms. Right now my 350 feeds the whole house from a central room, which is fine, but I like the flexibility of multi MVP's (I think)..

It sounds like you all use these resources differently than me.
I only use the 350 for recording and I use the Hauppauge software than came with it; ie. their scheduler and TitanTV, on the PC locally. THere is some problem with an audio driver that comes up every once in a while and I miss a show, but 80-90% of the time it works. Its has its other annoyances too, but I can manage.
I dont use the -350 for playback at all (should have bought the -250). I use the MVP for playback, with the Hauppauge software - thats the part thats slow.

So, I recently loaded this gbpvr software and, poof! , it works like one would expect. THe response time is greatly improved. Plus it has alot of capabilities the Hauppauge software doesnt. I am much impressed.

Now, I am still having trouble getting all the new things to work, but thats another story.

I was thinking of using adding an MVP to my system but was wondering what is the CPU usage wile using one? My friend has a media center and when he watches a show the computer is about useless the him. It hit 70% usage or more and he has a gig of ram and still runs out of memory and 3.4GhZ processor.

Does GBPVR work better?

using about the same system with GBpvr and a MVP it's a rare day that i go beyond 8% to 10%. I don't use the system to watch live tv on but if it's recording something or playing back i don't see any difference in the numbers listed above. I also use Homeseer auntomation software that runs in the background controllng other things as well as handling some of the IR tasks and i don't notice a slowdown at all. As i brouse this forum, my wife is watching a recorded soap opera, it's recording something else i'm listening to the jukebox plugin and the outdoor sprinklers are being controlled, all at the same time. using 15% of cpu. Maybe Media center is a cpu hog

Absolutely - as stated earlier in this thread, it just barely manages to move the CPU activity line from the ground, but on my 2,4GHz 768 MB system, it's hardly noticeable.

The MediaMVP(s) is really a great addition to the setup - you should be able to go there with no risk of hogging the system - rather, you have more freedom locally, as you don't even have to have the GBPVR frontend started if you want to work on other things.

Yes - everything you have locally on the PC - including all the improvements - are available through the MVP.

I haven't tested the WMA-support yet (I'm kind of a HiFi nut, so the kind of 'music' that comes from compressed media is not really a hit by me).

Thats what I wanted to hear, everyone seems happy with the MVP whereas some people are happy with using the output of the PVR350 and others have problems

Juts to correct the previous poster, so there is no misunderstanding. Not every feature is available via the MVP. There mnay things that wont work with the MVP - dvd player, aspect ratio support etc...
