Is there any way to make it run in a particular time frame? I'd like to set it to transcode what it can from like 1am to 7am, and again from 9am to 6pm, times that I won't be on the computer.

Also, I don't need it to transcode every recording, as episodic tv is just watched and deleted. But I'd like it to convert the archived movies, sporting events and ripped dvds in my movie library. Is there a way to limit it to coverting just those directories?

And what bitrate should I set it on to create a dvd quality file? is 6500 enough at 720x480 resolution?

Another option may be to run the mpg to divx conversion on idle priority.
In that way it will not hamper your normal work.

You can run any command at idle priority so if the normal command in postprocessing.bat or postepgupdate.bat reads like
mencoder .........
it would become
start /LOW /WAIT mencoder ........

It kicks of a separate process and waits for it to finish.
If you do not want to wait simply ommit the /WAIT

Could any of you produce a version of this plugin but to covert quicktime to mpg2 to play through the MVP? It'll be a hit among all of us having a long waiting for such of plugin.

Any help appreciated. Just installed mencoder... recorded a show. mencoder started but error appeared:
mencoder.exe - Unable to Locate Component
cygwin1.dll was not found

Any help?

It would also be helpful to be able to run mencoder on archived mpegs not just recent recordings.

Thanks

I will make an update of the plugin that will also allow to to manually run mencoder on any mpg file.
Also the cygwin1.dll missing error will then be solve (although I am not sure why you get that error)
Please be patient Smile

Here's the 4 cyg .dll's needed, so mencoder doesn't choke.
Unzip them to the \devnz\gbpvr folder, NOT the plugins folder.

Update is done, see announcements.
No more cyg dll's needed
Quicktime added as input.
mpeg added as output. (sometimes works)

Can anybody be kind enough to explain how to use this plugin?
I downloaded it and now have three .bat files, an .EXE and a .dll.
What do I do next?

Open the postprocessing.bat file in Notepad.
Read the contents. It should help.

I'm going to have to try this! Thanks!

Is there a way to have it convert files using wildcards? Like

*O'Reilly*.mpg
or
*Daily Show*.mpg
