Thanks for the replies, I'll try to answer the questions asked

Quote:My second question is for UKGuest44: when you use the plugin, can you position the screen to appear correctly? If you can, maybe your just fighting the same issue I was at first. If not, does the normal TV screen appear correclty positioned? And last, are there any controls on the TV itself that might help?

1) Using the plugin, I can move and resize the screen in the area GBPVR normally appears in, but if I say, move it up, it moves into the "invisible border" and disappears.

2) Normal TV is fine. Playback of videos on the MVP is fine (full screen, no borders). In fact, the best way to see the effect is play a video, so it's fullscreen and hit pause. You can see the GBPVR's layer over the top of the video is squashed to the right side, with the left, top and bottom borders (although here the borders are the video, and not black, because the video is fullscreen).

3) The TV is quite old, and there are no such options as far as I know. However, everything else (DVD, video, cable, TV) is fullscreen. It's just the GBPVR screen that comes up odd (and only the menu's)

Thanks for the help Smile

Sorry I don't have an answer for you, but I do have a couple more questions for you.

How are you connecting your PC to the TV? Are you certain that you have your video card set to the proper mode for the connection you are using? Does changing the resolution make any difference?

Depending on your connection, are you converting the signal before it reaches the TV?

Just looking for anything that may be skewing things before it reaches the set.

Good luck!

Well, I'm using an MVP, so resolution/video card wish should not be a problem.

The MVP is connected by SCART to my VCR, which is connected by arial to the TV. There are 2 other things connected to the same SCART (Internet TV, DVD Player) both of which are fine, so I doubt something is getting messed up in the connection.

The only thing I can narrow it down to, is the MVP, but beyond that, I have no idea.

Sorry, I must have been asleep when posting my last set of questions! Trying to keep too many threads going!

Any chance of connecting the MVP to another TV to see what happens? I have a newer TV, and so am connecting the S-video cable directly to the TV, and it works perfectly (after using the MVP Position plugin to correct the position and size, that is!)

I'm just wondering if your SCART doesn't like the signal coming from the MVP, or if there is something weird with your MVP. The easiest way to tell is test it on another TV.

I have a Mitsubishi HD Widescreen rear projection TV (very new model) and I'm having the same problems -- I end up with about 1/10 of the left side of my TV being a black bar. The image used to go off the edge of the screen on the top, bottom, and right sides, but thanks to the MVP Screen Position plugin, I was able to at least correct that. When I play recordings, LiveTV, videos, and of course non-MVP stuff like regular TV, DVD, VHS, etc., there is no left side border. The default MVP server menu looks fine -- no black bar down the left side, which tells me there has to be something I'm missing with my GBPVR configuration.

The settings for the plugin under MVP1 are:

Width: 632
Height: 460
X Offset: 44
Y Offset: 60

If you add the X Offset of 44 to the Width of 632 and that would about make the image go correctly to the left edge. However, even when I set the X Offset to 0 (zero), I still end up with that black bar down the left side, and then the actual image is cut off by the black bar.

I'm, of course, using a MediaMVP (tried both RCA and S-Video connections with the same results), and on the other end of the wired network is a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150.

At least I'm at the point now where the edge of the actual picture is visible on all sides, but the left-side black bar thing is vexing me.

So, am I missing anything simple/obvious here? I'm new to this level of PVR type stuff, but I've been recording TV on my computers for about six years now, so I'm not completely stupid.

Thanks for any help!
Chris

Excuse me as I reply to myself...

Dear Chris,

You are not allowed to post anymore questions on this forum until you figure the problem out yourself.

Sincerely,

Chris

Now, for the rest of you that are so rudely reading this conversation between me and myself (and in case anyone else has this "problem" as well), the way I resolved it was just actually using all the features of the plugin -- like setting the Global Settings first. Oops! Putting the plugin Global Settings at 660, 428, 16, 28, solved the problem completely.

My PVR is now ready to be shown to my wife, who is rather annoyed that we didn't get Tivo, but when she sees what GBPVR can do, not only will she probably like it, but she'll probably loosen the purse strings enough for a nice donation! Wink
