how come the recordings I make in GBPVR look better in media player?

Probably because media player, for some reason, uses another decoder than gbpvr does. Try changing the decoder to something else in gbpvr config utility.

media player also uses Overlay, which looks better than VMR on some video cards.

Eureka! I'm on to something! I set up a few more input devices using the svideo and the composite inputs on the prv-250. They look great! The whole issue seems to be from using the coax input?

I'm also experiencing "blown-outs", but they only show on the analog terestial channel (as opposed to the ones going through my RF-modulator, which looks fine).

If you find a cure, please post.

my cure was not using the coax input, when I used composite or s-video it looks great
