arlieyoung: fyi, that 2.5mb file ace'd is 78.8kb, 7-zip got it down to 73.6kb :-)

yonu: yes, this is a solution for cards that have buggy drivers. Basically the driver tries to detect if the recording has stuck (it checks to see if the output file is getting bigger). The next version will not write zero-byte files. Also it will not overwrite files that already exist. (This is all in an effort to allow the recording service to be restarted to recover the recording process - due to bad drivers)

nope, it seems to be a driver issue. It can also happen if the machine is at 100% usage while it's trying to record. I see BOINC doing it sometimes.

Normanr I’ve tried virtualdub it produced an error messasge. The virtualdub log says:

File ended unexpectantly during parsing - file may be damaged or incomplete.

I have also tried intervideo, and pinnacle pctv, they all work fine themsleves, but when trying to play the file created by GBPVR produce the same speeded up video as GBPVR does. If it is the MPEG encoder (moonlight) ( I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling) do you know of any others I could try as an alternative? when I look for these I can only find ones that act on files rather than videocapture, or can I use those out of the other programs I have, in which case how do I get them to show as alternatives in the config menu?

If virtualdub is unhappy, then everything else will be too.

Is this a reproducable problem? Is it only with GB-PVR that this issue is occuring? If you record with the RecorderTest application does it work okay? Would it be possbile for you to create a tiny recording (say 5mb'ish) that is broken and get it to me via email or upload it somewhere i can download it from.

Unfortunatly the moonlight encoder is the only encoder I have found that has the 'correctly shaped parts' that can be used with GB-PVR. I even checked the mainconcept one this weekend, and it can't be used either.

The crux is that the encoder must be able to compress (live) video and audio, mux them together and deliver them to a GB-PVR component. Most encoders force you to compress directly to file, which then can't be watched while you're recording. As you've found many encoders only take a file as an input (not a capture source).

All the other pvrs I have used are fine. (except when trying to play a mpg made by GBPVR) if I use Test Recorder it appears to record but it doesnt actually create a file to playback.

It will be a little while before I can get back to the computer its on, but when I do i'll record a short clip and send it by email.

In recordertest try specifying a full path to a target file (like c:\recording.mpg). Unfortunatly complexity comes with functionality, so I'm guessing other pvrs are not as fancy or a lot more work has been pumped into them

Normanr

I put in the full path, and got the same as I did with using GBPVR. ie horizontally squeezed and speeded up video and disintegrating audio.

have sent email to you with % meg sample
