just thought I would chime in and say that I am having the exact same issues as Big Stan and Chud. Sorry to say that I don't have any solutions yet. Just wanted to confirm others findings. I too see that it is the GBPVR recording service process as the culprit every 30 sec. and only happens in timeshift mode. The "hicup" causes an annoying albeit brief freeze in the video which coincides with the process activity.

During my experimenting I switched to the Nero decoder and found that the "hicup" seemed to be more pronounced. (don't really know what this may mean if anything) I was using the Performance monitor which is part of XP operating system to track the cpu usage by gbpvr recording service

Anyway, I sure hope someone can figure out what is going on because I too have pretty much stopped using timeshift mode because it is so annoying while watching TV.

EDIT: Just to clarify. I, unlike chud, do NOT see any hiccup during liveTV or playback of recorded material. Only during timeshift mode.

fiteclub, does your spike seem to be related to EPG size ? Does the spike go away with an empty EPG ?

I only get the spike in timeshift mode also.

I read somewhere over at BYOPVR that you can try to make that process a higher priority. I think that solved his problem.

I have set recording service to high priority in the config.xml file. It did not help. I did not expect it to since it is the recording service itself is causing the hiccup.

BTW, how do you check to determine a processes priority?

I'm seeing this problem too, with a bit of a twist. Watching Live TV in preview mode, I get bumped completely out of Live TV after 30 seconds. Watching in time shifted mode, I see the 30 second burp.

i think there was a bit of a misunderstanding. i also only have the 30s stutter when time shifting.

for kicks i tried changing my GBPVR config to use overlay rather than VMR9 which significantly reduces the CPU load. still stuttered.

i wonder if there is some common computer hardware at play here as this does not seem to be a problem with every user (most importantly sub...).

my system:
P4 1.7
i845
512 SDRAM
hauppauge PVR150
ati 9600pro

btw wtg, i have seen this ~30s boot out as well. it always seemed to be after i had played around with updating my pvr150 drivers. i am not 100% sure what cured it, but installing previous drivers or reinstalling them and eventually it went away.

chud, I tend to agree with you. I think it is something specific to our hardware configurations just don't know what Sad

kyle or sub

I have tried to empty the epg by going into the config utility and pressing the "empty epg" button on the capture card setup page. However, when I go back into gbpvr the epg is still full of program data. What am I doing wrong?

I've had that behavior w/ a laptop hooked up to a tv long before GB. I can't remember what it was that was causing it back then...it was like a service or something. May not be the case here for either of you. But, you could always try disabling as much as you can of XP that still allows you to watch TV, and try then. If it goes away, you're looking in the wrong place.

capone,

I individually looked at every process running on my HTPC using the performance monitor. The only process that showed cpu cycles being used was gbpvr.exe and the gbpvr recording service. The gbpvr.exe showed a steady cpu usage of about 50%. The gbpvr recording service spiked every 30sec and corresponded with the video frame freeze. I am convinced it is the recording service process; unless someone can give me a better idea.
