Well, as you may have noticed if you've been following this thread, my "design philosophy" for EPGExtra is to make it as simple and easy to install as possible, partly by offering minimal configuration options. If you want the ability to change the format, placement etc. of the extra attributes, you should check out the I-xmltv tool which is extremely configurable and offers a wide array of display options. You can download it from this thread.

I ran the update EPG from the tray icon, I waited a day, I ran the XML update command, Nada...

Any idea?
The c:\zap2it.xml file is created by GBPVR when it does an EPG update. EPGExtra just reads it. Are you absolutely sure that the <SaveZap2itXML> element's value is set to "true" in the config.xml file? Did the EPG update execute successfully when you ran it manually? Did the GBPVR program guide show new data? Are there any error messages in the GBPVR logs? Do you get the same result if you run the update from the Update EPG button in the GBPVR config app? Are sure you are looking for the zap2it.xml file in the root directory (C:\ ), which is where it lives, not in the gbpvr directory? And (sorry but I have to ask this Smile ) you are getting your EPG data from Zap2it and not some other source?

Once you get GBPVR EPG update to run successfully and to produce the zap2it.xml file, EPGExtra should work fine. If you still experience any problems, let me have the contents of the EPGExtra.log file (or wherever you are putting the output from EPGExtra).

I've been trying to get I-XMLTV working, and getting an error.
Just tried this, get the same error.
A DOS box opens, up comes the error, I hit OK, and close the DOS box.
WTF?
Sorry I missed this earlier. Looks like you have a problem with your GBPVR recording service. Not quite sure why you posted it on this thread. Hope you've found a fix by now. Smile

Yes. Here's a paste from it:
Code:
...
  <DvbEpgHarvestDuration>60</DvbEpgHarvestDuration>
  <SaveZap2itXML>true</SaveZap2itXML>
  <UseNewZap2itParser>true</UseNewZap2itParser>
...

ubu Wrote:Did the EPG update execute successfully when you ran it manually?
Yes, seems so.

ubu Wrote:Did the GBPVR program guide show new data? Are there any error messages in the GBPVR logs?
No, don't believe so.

ubu Wrote:Do you get the same result if you run the update from the Update EPG button in the GBPVR config app?
Yesm tried from there, and from the tray icon.

ubu Wrote:Are sure you are looking for the zap2it.xml file in the root directory (C:\ ), which is where it lives, not in the gbpvr directory?
Tried both (actually, even scanned the C drive).

ubu Wrote:And (sorry but I have to ask this Smile ) you are getting your EPG data from Zap2it and not some other source?
Don't be sorry, anything goes at this point. And yes, I am using zap2it (in Canada, though).

Is that a "No - the TV Guide doesn't show any new data" or a "No - there are no errors in any of the GBPVR logs"? If the former, look for an error message pertaining to this problem in the logs and post it here. If the latter then I'm suspicious (there's always some kind of error message in the logs, albeit often harmless ones Smile ). Specifically, GBPVRRecordingService.exe.log will contain a blow-by-blow account of your adventures in Zap2it-land so you might find a clue there.

I meant the latter.
In any case, (though I hate to just "throw" it at you), attached are the recent logs (from the last 12 or so hours). It shold also include the daily scheduled update.

I hope you can see something there...

Thank you ubu for making this add on! Having the extra data in the show information is just what I thought GBPVR was missing. Your efforts are appreciated !

My initial reaction is that I don't see the EPG update running in the logs you've attached. Also the logs show GBPVR, the config app and the recording service all being repeatedly started and then stopped a few minutes later so I'm not sure what you were doing at the time and whether you were trying to capture the regular scheduled EPG update or a manual update from the config app.

The logs appear to show that GBPVR started to do an automatic EPG update for 3 different capture sources at around 11.00. But then the config log shows what appears to be a manual EPG update request for capture source 1 about 20 seconds later. The recording service log shows no activity during that period but does indicate it was shut down 3 minutes later. All very strange.

What time have you set in the config app for the scheduledEPG update?
Also, since 3 capture sources are indicated, do you have three capture cards, each with a different EPG source? I'm not sure how that works since I only have one card. Maybe that's an issue here.

Lets try and nail this down by doing a controlled test. Either do a complete manual EPG update from the config app (let it run until it tells you the EPG has successfully been updated) or just let GBPVR do its scheduled EPG update at the time you have specified in config. In either case, make sure the recording service is up and running during the period of the update. Then attach the following logs: gbpvr.exe.log, config.exe.log, gbpvrrecordingservice.exe.log. (also the .exe-1.log and .exe-2.log versions of all three, just in case). Also attach your config.xml file. So that's 10 files you'll zip up.

That should give us a clue to what's going on here. I happen to be doing a clean GBPVR 97.9 SQLite install on one of my boxes today so I'll be able to compare my logs with yours, which might help.

Edit: You might want to check that <LoggingLevel> is set to "Debug" in your config.xml as per sub's suggestion later in this thread.

The c:\zap2it.xml will only contain the last set of data requested from zap2it. If they have multiple zap2it accounts, you'll only have the data from one of these.

I'm glad you find it useful. As a "reformed" TiVo user, there are a few features I still miss and this was one of them. Now, if only someone would write a plugin to schedule recordings based on a TiVo-style keyword-wishlist.....
