Zee may have replaced him to the south but Zed's alive and well here in Canada.

Butch: Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead.

Vincent: And you know what they call a... a... a Quarter Pounder with Cheese in Paris?
Jules: They don't call it a Quarter Pounder with cheese?
Vincent: No man, they got the metric system. They wouldn't know what the f#@k a Quarter Pounder is.
Jules: Then what do they call it?
Vincent: They call it a Royale with cheese.
Jules: A Royale with cheese. What do they call a Big Mac?
Vincent: Well, a Big Mac's a Big Mac, but they call it le Big-Mac.
Jules: Le Big-Mac. Ha ha ha ha. What do they call a Whopper?
Vincent: I dunno, I didn't go into Burger King.

Yeah me too! I think it's quite special in a world of global corporations, monopolies, MP3s, file sharing, bittorrent etc (...insert personal rant...Smile) that there are still some things that are good enough to make me really want to stick my hand in my pocket (edit: make that 'hand in wallet') by way of saying 'thanks'.

This thread has gone on a self desctruct mission, but I'm still curious. What do you do 'officially' for a living?

I currently work from home doing various software development contracts, which is great since I get watch my kids grow up.

I've been in the IT industry since about 1994. For the last few years prior to working for myself from home, I was a solutions architect in the telecoms space, trying to stay hands-on whenever I could. This had pretty interesting varied work, ranging from the development of a Coca Cola vending machine where product can be purchased via SMS, through to high availability prepaid mobile topup platforms (Orange in the Netherlands), and a lot of work for Vodafone and Ericsson.

I blame the guys from Coca-Cola Amatil (NZ) for my Coke addiction - the fools supplied a vending machine full of genuine product for the testing of that system. Each time one popped out, I had to drink it...it'd be rude not to.

I started with embedded systems, then spent several years with Microsoft technologies, before moving to Java for a few years, before moving back to the Microsoft side of the fence.

I just hope you didnt have anything to do with those awful parking meters they have in the CBD.
Each time I text them to pay for parking - it tells me the service is unavailable so I have to run and find a shop who actually will give change!

I'm very glad you decided to develop a PVR program, I tried mediaportal, and it was OK - but GB is just so easy to use.
Thanks for your efforts.

I am further amazed that you even have time to think about projects other than GBPVR considering the amount of time and effort just in supporting users on this board.

I know my wife would LOVE to get her hands on one of those vending machines, she is a Coke-aholic.

Thanks for the brief history, always interesting to read tidbits like this.
