Apologies to Spitfire and others for not getting back sooner but I’ve had to make changes to aid testing, but the good news is I’ve managed to get my Rev H3 MVP working using a twisted cable setup.

To give you an idea my PC has an onboard network connector which connects to my router for internet, network drives etc. I now have a PCI NIC just for the MVP. I now have this setup working on two completely different PC’s.

I tried for some time to use tftpd32 but without luck, eventually I’ve opted for MagikDHCP http://www.magikinfo.com/ , this has proved the easiest and most stable to setup and use.
Setup:
The network NIC is set to get an IP from the router.

The NIC for the MVP is set for a fixed IP and Subnet Mask. A twisted cable connects to the MVP.

MagikDHCP looks for a NIC with a fixed IP when it starts the first time.

When starting the PC the MVP needs to be powered up or an error message is received. Once the system is running remove and replace the MVP power cable and MVP boots.

Once the above was completed the system appears to be the most stable I’ve had the only problem I have is with dongles. My D3A boots very easily with the standard dongle.bin that comes with GBPVR the H3 is and always has been a pain, some days it will run only with _32_24110.bin, other days it needs V2.3.bin (that may be my own number?) other days it will run with either. Perhaps I’ll find the perfect dongle one day!

Hope this helps some body and if I can help with any questions regarding the above please ask.

Not to stir things up again, but why not plug the MVP into the router, instead of using a seperate crossover cable and 2nd NIC? I've had no troubles that way.

Correct, Tipster. I was wondering why he was using a crossover instead of just plugging into the network.

Re why not connect direct to a router.

Well, this will be a stand alone system when finished, I don't want to spend money on a router when all that is needed is an MVP a twisted cable and a PC.

The additional NIC was used for testing and problem solving.

Sorry if I caused confusion I was just trying to help anyone who wanted to run a twisted cable system.

tipstir

I assume it's a workstation, wouldn't know how to tell the difference though.

Have read your Network Tweaks and thinking of trying them but not sure how it will effect with the onboard and pci NIC?
