No, I'd meant the MVP client software reading the CC info out of the MPEG stream and dynamically adding the subtitles to the screen. The MVP client is able to do this because it knows exactly where the video playback is up to, and has quick access to the screen.

reencoding as part of the picture also ensures good timing, but obviously no chance of toggling on/off.

Yep, but not something I can do. You'd have to talk to mvallevand or hauppauge.

Let me predict a pending mvallevand post...

sub Wrote:subtitles on the MVP is pretty much going to suck while its done the current way (at the GB-PVR end). GB-PVR has very little control over timing of these things displaying on the MVP.

The only way to improve this stuff would be to have the MVP software itself showing the subtitle, but that wouldnt work for SRT files. It would need to be subtitles embedded in the MPEG file.

This is why I've been trying to get some sample files, since I can't seem to make them myself for whatever reason. It should be easy enough for mvpmc to display them if the Hauppauge drivers create valid mpeg's It works fine for vob's.

There wasn't any mpeg style subtitle that mvpmc recognized.

CC subtitles are definitely in that file. I see these subtitles in GB-PVR when running on PC, with intervideo decoder + VMR9.

mvpmc mustnt understand that CC format yet.

I don't know the answer to this, but I get the feeling CCinDVD is different than subtitle streams. CCinDVD are commands that are embedded with the GOP data.

Are you seeing subtitles or CC in VOB's? CC is in line21 as Sub has stated. I don't remember how subtitles are inserted in VOB's. There are threads on subtitles in DVD's at http://www.videohelp.com. Martin, line21 CC also exists in ReplayTV 5xxx mpegs.
