Quote: if you want to, you can come around to my place and borrow a (11300/11300/11300) LNB for a while to make sure you can get it working with GB-PVR.

Thanks - That would be great. I have seen some around for sale, but it would be much better to try one out and check it's just the LNB before buying one. I asume they just bolt on? (and hope I don't knock the dish out of alignment)

Please PM youjr address details and when the best time to come over would be.

Thanks

They've usually just got a plastic ring at the end of the arm that wraps around the LNB with a screw securing it. It should be pretty easy to swap over without moving your dish.

Sure.

I can get a good price of Hauppauge Nova-S and there is also a guy on Trademe who has TwinhanDTV Mini Sat II's. Do you have a recommendation out of these two or are they pretty similair?

Its not clear to me on the Twinhan web site what the exact model number for that one is. As long as its got BDA drivers it should be ok. They supply BDA drivers for most of their devices, but you might want to get the model number so you can confirm with the Twinhan downloads page.

The Nova-S is pretty old now. Or do yu mean one of the newer ones like Nova-S Plus or Nova-S SE2? These later two had BDA drivers written by Hauppauge. The original Nova-S needed alternative BDA drivers written by TechnoTrend.

Heads up. I just noticed on my hardware suppliers site a new Hauppauge DVB-S card: "WinTV Nova-S2 HD/PCI Satellite High Definition Dual Tuner -DVB-S2 and DVB-S card". Might be worth waiting for.

The Hauppauge HVR4000 does DVB-S/S2, but DVB-S2 isnt really a huge concern in our part of world (no DVB-S2 visible from NZ).

My understanding is they HAVE to go Horizontal due to legal reasons. Because they buy content for NZ ONLY and the Vertical antenna covers NZ and Australia theortically someone could subscribe here, send the decoder to friends in Oz and they could then watch Sky NZ over there - I know its crazy but apparently some content suppliers are not happy with this so they are slowly replacing LNB's on clients dishes where required and they plan to switch. I've heard they can remotely "program?" the recievers to change the transponder settings etc.

sub Wrote:Its worth noting that there is some discussion (on apsattv mailing list) about signal polarisation of Sky and Freeview on the new Optus D1 satellite. Its possible that Freeview will be horizontal and Sky will be vertical (its currently this way), meaning the same LNB cant be shared for both services, which might mean the need for a dual LNB or extra satellite dish.

Its possible Sky will also switch to horizontal in the near future, which will again make it possible to have the one LNB feeding both Sky and Freeview - but this hasnt been confirmed either way.

The all relates to a configuration mistake made by the manufacturers of the new Optus D1 satellite. Previously all services in New Zealand were vertical.

Yeah, I've heard that aswell, but I'm not sure if its 100% correct.

They're also using "leakage to australia" as a reason for not including Prime on Freeview (horizontal), since there is the Prime FTA rugby rights can only be for transmission in NZ...so it sounds like switching to horizontal like freeview doesnt solve this problem. They have said they'll include Prime on the terrestrial version of Freeview that launches next year.
