Sub, would callerID and email notification be possible for a plugin or would you have to do them? They wouldn't be something selected off of the main menu, but rather when a call or email came in some text would be overlayed (semi-transparent I would think) on the screen.

CodeMonkey - I'll add this to the todo list.

Not a plugin as such, but some thoughts on the plugin framework - would it be possible to have different types of plugins in (possibly) the following categories:

UI plugins
These would be plugins as they currently stand, that have their own page accessed by a menu item (although as more plugins get added this is going to become cumbersome).

Applet plugins
These would be plugins that don't have their own page but are hosted by the main menu.
An example that might take advantage of this format might be the disk space utilisation plugin being developed. You could probably do an on-screen keyboard using this method (although you'd need to work out a way of expanding the area that the plugin took dynamically to allow it to work, or put a hook in to allow dialogs to be generated).

Service plugins
These would be plugins that don't have a UI at all, but are called periodically in the background. Any information to be communicated could be returned as a string which would be displayed on the OSD overlay by the main program.
Examples of this might be called-id or email notification, or a reminder system.

Cheers,
Andy

Yes, I've been thinking along similar lines.

Hey Sub,

as a learning curve I was going to take one of the sample tetris games on some of the C# resource sites and write this as a plugin for GBPVR.

It seems like it would be a nice exercise from a .NET and a plugin point of view.

Seeing as you know the plugin system quite wellSmile Is there any limitation which prevents this kind of thing (other than programmers ability?) or should this work quite nicely?

Cheers,

needsRendering is only called once a second, so it could be a little slow.

It can be quite slow and consume a reasonably large amount of CPU to renderer OSD frames for the PVR350 and MVP, so I'm doing it every 100ms.

A commercial detection plugin would rule. I tried another media center program but this one is the best one in my opinion simply because it works with my tv card.
