Azimuth, If you don't mind, I'd like to ask some questions, and it would help me as I learn about setting the affinity for programs...

If you transcode manually, (and have "Use Hunter in Manual Mode" checked), do ZProcess, FFmpeg AND Hunter all run on one CPU, Both or mixed?

When you Transcode on the fly, and serve the MVP, which processors do GBPVRRecordingService and any or all GBPVR.exe processes use?

BTW, with defaults, the GBPVR.exe that is using Above Normal or High Priority is the session that is driving the MVP, not the computer GUI.

Apparently you can set the affinity for already running programs in Task Manager. It's only a one time thing.

If you have ZProcess , FFmpeg and Hunter on the other processor from the one running the MVP, does your computer run smoothly? Does FFmpeg use much more CPU than ZProcess and Hunter? (as it should appear)

I'd love to know these things before I dig in too deeply...

Thanks
Frank Z

Hi..

Try this version 1.0.1010 I have changed the way it waits for a program to close. I'd be interested to see how it works for you

Do I just copy the exe into your directory?

It runs smoothly no clicks or pops anymore with 640x480.
it does however still use the entire processor.
Nice work on the performance improvement.

I didn't do anything to make the transcoding smoother without sound gltches, but I'll take credit... sure! Big Grin

Here is yet a newer build. I have added a switch to tell ZProcess NOT to wait for the transcode process to complete. Without any timers running, ZProcess should be at 0% usage.

It's a checkbox "Dont Wait" found on the Transcode Tab...

But I caution you. When the loop is exited, there are several activities such as logging that is left unfinished.

Although Sub has commented strongly that changing the affinity of programs is a poor choice, I would say, (without being able to test it) that it would be best to have ZProcess waiting AND using the same Processor as FFmpeg.

There are several affinity switching programs available that can monitor the launch of processes and always have ZProcess and FFmpeg on the same processor...

----
Included in this build is a new version of Hunter.exe. Overwrite both files in the ZProcess or ZTools directory

ZProcess 1.0.1012
Hunter 1.0.102

I don't think it is possible to alter affinity for "system" processes.

the changes you made work great, thank you. 50% used by ffmpeg

They aren't system processes. You should have no problem. Whatever...

with the previous patch, FFmpeg should be up to 97-100 %... and ZProcess 0%

But I really still want ZProcess to count away and monitor progress, so the last patch was just a workaround.

In this patch, I have tried something with affinity. Once you have a transcode running, that includes a ffmpeg and hunter window, click 'Test' on the transcode tab.

I'm hoping you get three successes, and then all three processes should be on the second CPU. Could you try it?
