I have the 6150 and know what you're talking about. The menu transitions were jerky (but video played fine) while I was without Internet access, therefore, an empty EPG. After about 5 minutes of using PVRX2, the menus would become smooth. After I got Internet access, sometimes the first 20 or so seconds after launching PVRX2, the menus are jerky, then it smooths out, but not always. So I wonder if the menu smoothness has any wierd correlation with size or status of EPG?

If you have a large EPG, you may find the background loading of the EPG keeps the CPU/Disk very busy for first few minutes, which could interfere with smooth animation.

I have a pretty large EPG now... seems Schedules Direct does the same thing as zap2it did and puts in a bunch of channels i never requested in like the 9xxx range for my Dish network 'profile'.

Oooohhh this sound like a reference to MS Vista. But I shouldn't further de-rail this thread any further with a debate that is already everywhere..Rolleyes

Hmm, I've upgraded some hardware and 2 versions of GB-PVR since I last posted in this thread, but I'm still not getting smooth animations on the menus. It is just me?

I've now got a x2 4200 and an nvidia 8500gt installed so it's not lack of processing power, latest drivers etc all installed too. Even if I leave it for 5-10 mins after starting up (to wait for EPG updates etc) it doesn't make any difference. It does seem to be connected with restarting out of standby/hibernate though ie if I manually close GB-PVR and reload it, everything is smooth as butter!

hmm.. might be worth tinkering with your Direct3D settings in the nVidia control panel and see if you can fix that problem..

I've have a look through when I get home (11 hours at work and counting!). From memory though I've got it set to quality, 32bit colour, AA and AF application controlled.

Completely off-topic but I noticed from your sig you have a 42" plasma which I assume has a native res of 1024x768. Have you tried running it at that vs 720p mode and seen any picture quality difference? Was hunting around on the web and seen a lot of recommedations to run the screen in its native resolution for better output. Can't see much difference myself though!

Quote:Just upgraded to the latest version and getting fairly jerky animations scrolling on the main menu. Anyone else getting this? I've tried launching the prog with the -fse switch but doesn't seem to make any difference.

If I'm understanding right - I noticed something similar. Usually the menu to menu animation is butter smooth on my system - but when I first start up PVRX2 it's almost like it's in slow motion to a degree (noticeable, but not real bad).

I've found that this condition will remain until I start a video - be it recorded or live. When I stop that video (even if it's immediately after starting it) all menus display fast and smooth animation again until the next time PVRX2 is restarted.

As an update on this, I tried playing around with all my direct3d settings but didn't make much difference. Problem seems connected with coming out of standby/hibernate like it's not refreshing the memory or something (I'm using FSE mode), as if I manually close the app and restart it its smooth again.

Leaving it until the epg is updated in the background like sub suggested, or playing a video doesn't make any noticable difference.

Sub - is this something you've been able to replicate on your side? I also noticed earlier in the thread you mentioned that in the next release (presumably 1.0.16 given the time of the post) that there would be a way to switch off the animations. Did you get a chance to implement this as I may do that if I can't figure out why I'm getting this jerky scrolling?
