Men are not the only ones involved in hardware manufacturing.

You can't imagine how frustrating this is. Makes me want to throw it all out to the curb, the same place I left the ex sitting.
There are many HTPC "guys" who are just as frustrated as you. We would love to be able to buy a $250 OCUR tuner to record premium content without having to purchase a $2000 system to do it. Unfortunately, reality and our wishlist do not always overlap.

You can purchase the PVR-150 as sub suggested for < $100 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6815116629

You do not have to enable the tuner in GB-PVR. You can set it up as a S-VIDEO only capture card.

We would love to be able to tell you "Yes, you can do exactly what you want the way you want to do it." But the reality is that you can't and unfortunately, there is no way for us to change that. We do understand your frustration as most of us have been there at one point or another, but you cannot lay the blame at our feet.

LOL! Yer killin' me.

I think she mentioned earlier that a PCI card wouldn't fit physically. The Haup USB2 might be an option if you have a USB port available and open. But then there's still them pesky drivers and what not to install. With 8TB laying around, you should be able to find some room to dump the disk/s across the network, backup the registry, and you could always get it back where you started. Oh yeah, if you're on XP, system restore can be your friend. Sounds like you might need one.

Anyway, how can you possibly blame a guy for adding a beer cooler and more chrome?

I'm just sayin'.

Sorry. I didn't click the link. I didn't know they made those low profile jobs.

If not, could we matchmake?

This is what I use to switch between my two video sources. It automatically switches between them when I turn on the second source (in this case a DVD player, the first is an MVP)

It was cheap and easy vs trying to get DVD through the MVP (The server is upstairs....)

Well I caved in and purchased one of those pvr-150LP cards.
It's way more than I want or need.
It really makes me mad that to do one simple little thing I have to go into massive overspending for a massive overkill option that I do not want and do not need.
This is about the same as me going to buy a mini-van just to haul groceries and the kids around and being told that I have to buy a Ferrari instead, just because everyone else buys them.

So in a few days it will be here and I'll install it and I'll disable 98% of it's features. I'll have paid 80% more than I should have for something that I'll only use 2% of it's capabilites.

I just love buying more than I need. Nothing is more satisfying in life than spending more money than you should.

I don't think you are going to be happy with a capture card just to perform a switch operation, but good luck with it.

Well what I really want is to be able to watch an external video source through the gb-pvr system. I want to be able to use my remote control to select and control it. I don't want to be jumping up and pushing buttons.

Oh well. I understand that this device will do what I want. It just makes me mad that there isn't a cheap, simpler, single use device that just passes through an s-video signal.
