Hi

I have the same problem. I have followed the services->gbpvr->allow service to interact with desktop suggestion. Now I can access EWA on local machine through http://localhost/gbpvr/guide.aspx. However the page times out when I try to access EWA from any other computer on the network (one XP machine one Vista 32)

Any suggestions? Thank you

Most likley the firewall on the firewall on the local pc is on. You need to either turn it off....or (recommended) go into the firewall software and open up the EWA ports which (by default) are 7647 and 7648.

I thought about it...But none of the computers have firewall on them and windows one is turned off...
But you gave me an idea...Do I need to have port 7648 forwarded in my router as well? I only have 7647 forwarded. This could explain why I can't connect from out side but I don't see how it could cause problems when I explicitly specify my GBPVR machine's LAN IP address when I try to connect from inside the network...But then again my networking knowledge is not that extensiveSmile

For inside access you do not need to do anything with your router forwarding. At least I have never had to do anything for internal stuff.

For outside access you will need to have 7647 forwarded to access EWA and 7648 if you have streaming setup.

Check your windows firewall on the local machine.....I can't tell you how many times people (including myself) have discovered that windows firewall can be mysteriously turned on....that was one of the main reasons I decided to leave mine on and just open the ports on the firewall.

Yeah I know I had that before. Turns out some windows updates turn it back on. I am on my way home so I'll be checking this shortly. I sure hope "possessed" firewall is the issue, cause I would really want handy EWA working.

I noticed on your post that you have http://localhost/gbpvr/guide.aspx . There should be a port number in your url...defualt is 7647. http://localhost:7647/gbpvr/guide.aspx.

To get to EWA from another PC on your network you need to use either the IP of the host machine or the machine name....

http://your-host-pc-ip:7647/gbpvr/guide.aspx

or

http://host-machine-name:7647/gbpvr/guide.aspx.

You can also use guide2.aspx which will put you into the CSS based screens version of ewa.

Let me know if this helps or if you were already doing this....

Oh..I just forgot to put the port in the link when I was typing the help request. I did type the address with the port in IE so this is not the issue. CSS version is slick by the way (can still see it through http://localhost...)

And when accessing from another pc you are using the ip address or machine name of the host PC....correct?
