Honestly, I really can't understand what's being said. Not trying to be dense or anything. Is he complaining because there's black bars on top and bottom? There are some channels or sources that none of the equipment I own (free or otherwise) will get rid of unless using fill and destroying aspect.

This is what I am complaining about. GB-PVR decides that just because I have a 16:10 widescreen monitor it must display a 16:9 TV programme in 16:10 ratio in a 16:10 window instead of in 16:9 ratio, which means the picture ends up being squashed and peoples faces are elongated. See attached image which shows the mans face too long.

I can see from the lack of the black bars at the top/bottom of that screen shot that you havnt made the change I suggested. If you had you'd get these bars and the aspect ratio would be correct.

For comparison, this is what I get.

I made the changes you suggested and then changed them back to illustrate my original point to the previous poster.

I have now changed Fill to <AspectRatioMode name="Fill" ratio="0,0.05,1,.95" /> which allows all the Auto settings to work in the right aspect ratio, but with the reduced overscan I mentioned earlier. This will have to do.

GB-PVR is still 100 times more useful than the WinTV software that came with my DTV stick, and I would like to thank the developers for that.

The cropping you want for hiding the VBI lines is a different issue and not related to the aspect ratio.

If you're using the VMR9 renderer, you can try the attached patch, and add <CropVBI>true</CropVBI> to your config.xml file.

This matter of the BBC picture having components seemingly "intended" for overscan surprises me somewhat. I've understood that you want to keep important content away from the edges in case the display being used cuts them off, but I thought that it was more of a problem from the days of CRTs (which is the type of display I'm using).

How do the newer LCD TVs work in this respect? Do they cut off picture edges and/or do you have any control over this aspect?
