Both files seem to play equally fine with me with no audio stuttering. My monitor is just 15" however, so if the video problem is subtle I might not notice it. You guys are lucky to get this quality. Your config seem okay so you need to check for another bottleneck.

mono and mvpmcx2 do not use the same player, x2 demands better network throughput and it can't do 1080p as an example.

Unfortunately the dumpts file can include characters that crash telnet, that is unrelated.

Part of the problem may be the resolution, 2 of my PCH's are configured for 1080px60Hz. The one I am testing on at the mo is a 720px60Hz. They all exhibit the same problems - if anything the 720p is the worst.

I suppose there may be something on my LAN causing collisions during high throughput. I'll try isolating one of the NMT's and the server on a private lan to see if that makes any difference.

Any other suggestions would be gratefully recieved.

Martyn

720p60 component just worked for me. The stuttering especially the lengthy delay makes me think is not PCH related at all.

I have an old server that I recently (March) migrated from. I just upgraded that to the current version, copied the .ts files in and reconfigured the NMT to use that share instead. Wouldn't you just know, worked like a charm!!!!!

The motherboard, network card and disk are virtually identical. the only obvious difference is that the old box is XPP whereas the new one is Vista Ultimate. Is it likely that Vista could be the problem? If it is, then it concurs with my prejudices against it in most other areas. (POS).

Anyway, looks like it's time to rebuild the XPP box properly.

If anyone is reading this that has Vista and a PCH and fancies giving one of the 100MB downloads a whirl, I'd be really interested in the results.

Thanks to both Martin's for the help.

Sorry, I use Vista and prefer it. It even runs ok from a virtual Vista and xp machine within Vista.

I checked the Vista performance stats and they all suggest the processor, memory and network are barely more than walking whilst the stuttering is occuring. That probably only leaves faulty hardware then. Now, were did I leave my hammer.....

(well I went to bed earlier).
Just to confirm that both files played fine on my PCH. Server is is P4 3.2ghz and network 100mbs with two switches between the PC and the PCH. PCH set for 1080p/60Hz
Video and audio start almost instantaneously when playing whereas mono used to delay audio by a second or so.

Martins "You guys are lucky to get this quality." is the main reason I got the PCH and LCD TV.

Martint123, It sounds as though our set ups are very similiar, except mine is a 3gb CPU but a GB LAN with 2 switches between. I think it has to be something on my server, but I dont know what as it never seems stressed.

Martin V, could I ask you to briefly explain how the H264 process differs in the current version from the way it works in mono. Are you saying that some of the decoding is handled at the server as the data stream requires more network bandwidth.

Is it possible that a GPU or codec on the server is causing my issues?

Just my 2cts: Vista SP2 is available. Did you already install that. You never know. I remember SP1 made quite a difference.

Good Idea, I generally leave updates off, cus they often seem to break things. I'll put sp2 on and see if it makes any difference.
