Is it possible move my GBPVR install from my old os install to my new one. Like install gbpvr and then copy the old folder over the top of it?

sub Wrote:This will almost certainly relate to the decoders you have selected in the Settings -> Decoders screen. If you post your logs (in the npvr forum), I'll take a look.
Thank I didn't try too hard to be honest, changed the settings and the sound now works.

sub Wrote:To be fair, most people dont have these problems you're encountering. The majority of that time sounds like it was spent trying to work out what was broken about VMR on your machine. This wasnt a GBPVR problem, but something broken on your Windows install.
VMR issue asside it's still a right faff. It's probably mainly due to me being inbetween two transmitters though. I have to scan twice for each tunner, and even more times to get all thre channels detected, then fiddle with the audio because they don't assign properly, then the channel names are just unknown 1 2 ect so delete tunner and rescan from scratch.

Stuff like that I go through every time, usually I can get it all setup eventually but this time I get one thing working and other thing comes up, like video stopped working inbetween just closing gbpvr and opening it again.

To be fair, like I say it's probably just being mid way between two transmitters and nPVR is a lot easyer to configure, but I prefer GBPVR once it's setup because I find it easyer to use/more solid. Like how do you get nPVR to play full screen, in gbpvr it's alt+enter. In nPVR if I manually resize the screen while live tv is playing t quits to the epg but the tv is still playing in the background, only way to get back to it or stop it is to close nPVR.

Just wish there was a simple TV app that just worked. Nothing fancy, just epg, play, record. I would be happy to pay £100 for it.

Sure, you can probably copy your "c:\program files\gbpvr" directory from your old machine over to the new machine's "c:\program files\gbpvr", but I'm guessing your problems are more likely related to decoders or drivers etc, which are outside of GBPVR, and wont be helped by copying your old GBPVR files.

Great - so NPVR should work for you then.

NPVR attempts to be a simple TV app. I basically wrote it to be like GBPVR, but to be simplify stuff like EPG etc that made GBPVR a pain in the arse for new users. I'd like to hear what things you found to be too complicated about NPVR, so I can look to improve those areas in future. That said, some times there is good reasons the way things are the way they are though, with conflicting requirements for users in different parts of the world with different TV systems etc, but it does try to be as simple as possible.

The Alt-Enter problem is a bug I introduce in a nextpvr.exe patch a couple of weeks back. I've fixed it for the next release, which is due in a week or so. For the short term, you can either look for a slightly older nextpvr.exe, or just avoid alt-enter while video is playing.

You'd be better off letting us know about problems or shortcomings you're finding with NPVR, since this is still being actively developed and supported. With GBPVR, you're pretty much stuck with any bugs you find.

Thanks sub, I'll wait untill the next nPVR release and then dive in.

I did another reinstall and fingers crossed got gbpvr setup and working, just one small problem, PVRX2.exe won't open if using the shortcut or clicking the exe directly, but if I right click the tray and clicking "Start PVRX2" it opens.

If stop the service and close the tray, then start the service and reopen the tray, it will no longer open via the tray. Untill I run the modify option on the install, then it will open via the tray again but not via the shortcut or directly.

I hope that makes sense, any ideas? Here are my logs.

Cheers.

No, I havnt seen that before. I wondered if it's something to do with the setting to auto start the TV Guide though. I dont have GBPVR on my machine anymore, so cant try it here.

Ok ok, I will try to switch over to nPVR now then. The tray option stops working after a reboot so I need to run the modify option on every boot before I can use gbpvr. The repair option fails btw.

Do you have a fix for the nPVR full screen issue I can use before the next update?

Just avoid toggling between window and fullscreen mode while video is playing.

A new release will be out in next week or so, and will fix this problem.

Ok thanks sub, I'll have more reports and questions about nPVR over the coming days, I'll post them in the other forum, hopefully you don't get sick of me. Keep up the good work. Smile
