I had 8 decoders to try (this is from a GBPVR machine which worked very well). Tried EVR, VMR9 Custom and Overlay. Tried all 8 with both Hard Encode and Soft Encode.

On Overlay though, I can even see the tv show info screen when starting Live TV but black picture. I attach some logs... I didnt see anything interesting, but maybe you will.

Hey JeffP, I tried every combination I could think of, I think it is a lost cause. The card mimics a PVR-250 almost to a tee as far as the filters go... It gets reported as a PVR-150 with DeviceXXX (cant remember the old device identifier thing for GBPVR). I think the chipset is closer to a 250 from what I can find googling. Sony musta sabatoged the board to prevent any other 3rd party software to decode it. From pBS's findings i posted in a earlier go around with this card, he found its possibly hidden in the Crossbar filter (he called it a streaming mux). Time to eBay it? HAHA! Big Grin

Sorry for being "offline" for a bit - I work for the USGS representing the PacBasin, and things have been a bit busy, to say the least. You guys already know where my address is (middle of the Pacific), but things are getting back to normal...

Snooze, thanks for the link to the .xml file. I'm in the process of inserting the code and then will fire up and try.

I don't think this is materially sabotaged because it works with SageTV. I tried their product because it was included with my old Hauppauge CD, and it worked just fine. So there's something in there that's attackable by 3rd party. Do you guys know of a list in their software similar to the AnalogDevice.xml that I could look at?

Maybe see if this helps. If not, post the npvr.log/nrecord.log and I'll take another look.

Grudging progress... I've added the list to the .xml, and so now I get the SMRT Capture listed as a device. I manually added a single channel, which it recognizes in my TV listings. I stopped and restarted the NPVR service, and I now show a device called "SMRT Capture 1". I restarted NPVR and I see the channel in the TV listings, but no content for the channel. I tried to start live TV and I get the message, "Live TV buffer directory does not exist: C:\temp\".

How would SageTV have gotten this to work? Is there something more I can trap for that might give us the <Name>?

Either create a c:\temp directory, or go into the Setting screen and set your recording directory to somewhere that exists.

kk, so I've got the temp created, have my audio renderer set to default, and changed my MPEG1 audio decoder to MPEG audio decoder and am now getting sound for channel 3 (the only channel I configured). So now I'm to where snooze was the other day: audio but no video. I don't have the option to change my video decoder; it remains "disabled". What controls this options?

just for the heck of it added a 2nd channel to test out switching capabilities - also to see if changing type might add video - 2nd channel works fine as audio, but no video
