If you use 'NPVR Writer', it'll take care of creating segmented files and deleting the files etc.

Yes, it'll tell you to stop when it is time. Why does it seem risky to you? Very early versions of GBPVR told the recorder the duration, but I quickly found many reasons why this was a bad idea. For example, there are situations where the duration can change mid recording (like when the duration of a recording is adjusted by the user, or if padding is affected when a new recording is scheduled or a previously pending recording being removed.

For the r5000 (and even for GBRecorder) I don't control the file writing which is why I ask. Can I just tell the r5000 server to write one big file.

I guess I don't like the idea of creating a thread that goes forever I have no control over.

Yeah, one big TS file is probably ok, albeit a bit ugly.

Sub, I have been playing with the tuner plugin, and the code I was writing for the r5000 also works with the standalone SageTV Graph Recorder. Here is the basic graph I use for firewire recorder with the NPVR Writer as the output and that seems ok (firewire choppiness aside). Is there a way to insert the rolling file into this graph for live tv?

Is that right hand filter the 'NPVR Writer' filter? If so, it should do the rolling file automatically.

It is NPVR Writer but it doesn't seem to create a second file. I do have to parse out the LIVE& so SGraphRecorder can create the file maybe that is why? Also NPVR Writer's creates the output file that I specified in the graph in addition to the passed file. Is there another name I should use?

You should leave the LIVE& in the filename. The writer filter will parse it out, and treat it as a live stream requiring multi-part files.

Wow that works!

4/08/2011 12:21a 0 sgr1.ts
4/08/2011 12:21a 0 sgr1.ts.Timing.Info
4/08/2011 12:28a 0 live-TVGCAN-5534-2.ts
4/08/2011 12:28a 156,560,384 live-TVGCAN-5534.ts

Is there a way to avoid the other files?

Where does this sg1.ts filename come from? I'm guessing maybe you're originally setting this filename on the filter when you creating the graph?

Yes, it opens a File Open dialog when I add it.
