At least with Hauppauge they seem to produce fairly stable products without bringing replacements out as soon as they have sold a few.
And from what sub has mentioned in the past, they work with developers.
Fingers crossed for a worthy successor to the SD MVP with the right magic cast over it. And a stable future.

I'm perfectly happy with the NMT, but this device interests me too as (hopefully) a longer term more easily available option. I've no problem keeping all my video stuff as mpeg...

Someone snagged the 2 Egreats on Ebay that I was watching. But it's probably just as well - I'm very interested in seeing what Martin might be able to come up with for the MVP-HD.

Otherwise I still have a few more weeks to try out the new WD Live SMP box that I bought which in general is a really nice device but currently is a little buggy and of course isn't integrated with NPVR (although playing back and deleting from the file/folder structure isn't as bad as I thought it would be). It also has a lot of internet services as a bonus although I'm not sure how much I would use them.

I'm interested too, I like challenges, but don't expect DTS-MA passthrough on the the MVP-HD, like you get on those NMT's. Hauppauge is very vague on what they have licensed.

I would be interested in seeing NPVR having more extender options and I think the rest of the Sage community would as well.

I am looking forward to a new generation of possible devices that extend the NextPVR experience.

I have slowly started to replace my MVP's with NMT's but would like to see where this moves next....

.mkv's are not usually a problem for me as I use NextPVR as my total media distribution solution, but there are times when I am reduced to d'loading something in a format that needs some work to get it to 'play' right.

I would have to agree with Martin on this. They appear to be a friendly company that wants to help, and stick around. And as I am loaded (read invested heavily) with their MVP's and capture cards have given the most stable solutions in this mad electronic age!

cheers all and Happy 2012

A little search with google gave:

This is the place that I visited a while ago. It appeared to be the firmware as installed on my device.

OK, time for another opinion. I actually would like to see better integration of mkv and iso (and videos from my phone/cam etc.) files with nextpvr and extenders. Hauppauge indeed seems to be a friendly company, but it looks like this MVP-HD is to pricy and there's too much competition. Wouldn't the upcoming Android devices be something to look at for future extenders?

I would love to see native support for subtitles in mkv files with NPVR. That might convince me to rip my blu-rays (if I could ever afford the disk space needed).

Isn't the biggest problem sub not wanting to support long filenames for http streaming? I'm surprised it is a general problem for mkv's, from the number of non-English users of the PCH, and the anime watchers I thought subtitle support was supposed to be reasonable on the PCH's http://www.networkedmediatank.com/wiki/i...ed_Formats.

That being said my mvpmcx2 support for DVB subtitles is awful, and that is the case on most extenders.

There might be too much competition for Hauppauge, I wouldn't recommend one without NextPVR support, but there price is pretty good here in North America, you can get them for less than $100US Overall I'd still recommend a first gen NMT from ebay for value and functionality, if the hardware holds up.

I've got one on order, but Android is too generic, it's like answering "can my Windows PC play all .mkv files?" You'd probably find better support for subtitles on traditional extenders. HD audio support on Android, and support for 24/50/60 fps switching is generally not as good either.
