Jorm, that sounds like just what i wanted..just so many clicks right now to get to playing the file after ripping..

Hmm, maybe i should work on an autostart that will rip the dvd as soon as it's put in the drive so it's available immediately when i walk into the other room to view it on the MVP..may be more to the point for me..but also interested in a plugin, cuz hey if we can transcode a .wma on the fly and play it, then why not a DVD? Seems like the holy grail of the wishlist for us MVP'ers Smile

So Jorm, would your suggestion do the auto-playing after the transcoding?
[just by working with the skin and batch files]
Love the XRecord installer btw Smile
haven't played with Xrecord since the early days so looking to play more with it tonite..not sure how it works but looks easy enough..
thanx
Excellent suggestion! Smile

xrecord has matured a lot since the early days. My suggestion (It should work) when you click on the video you will not see the play highlighted but two new buttons start transcoding and stop transcoding. Once transcoding begins the play button will become active and you can click on that. I did it like that since there are a lot of users and I did not want to introduce conditions where it does not work for some users because there machine is too slow. With this solution you can actually transcode a dvd or video and then while that is going flip to another show and watch it while the other one is being processed (if you have a machine without the horsepower to do it live).

Let me know if it works. If it does I will add the dvd to the default converter in the skin.

ok,got it setup the way i thik you said, mvpplay.bat in gbpvr dir, and changed the skin.xml with your line [replacing the .mov extension cuz i don't use them anyway] but it says i don't have any "movies" in the movie section..i thought it would show up there so i could click and try to play it..
it should show up as 'movie.dvd' right? [that's the name of the file i put in "movies" dir.] that's an empty file right?
liking your plugin alot..Smile
seems the MVP is running slower tho..[less responsive in menus]

Thank you.

Here is an attached skin.

Unzip the skin.xml and save it to gbpvr\skin\blue\xrecord

and see if that helps.

You should see the file appear.

well,it keeps saying out of memory so i think i have something else screwed in my setup..if i put an avi into the movies dir. it crashes just trying to select the category. made sure my MVP software was working by checking avi playback from 'videos' so that's not it..
may do a fresh install to clean things out with the new 9310b and what''s your newest plugin ver.? [just to be sure i'm up to date all around]
i think an install of video archiver messed something up..will get back to you soon as i get something to show..[still nothing in 'movies']
oh and wouldn't the .dvd show up elsewhere if i put it in say, videos dir?
thanx for da help..

yes it would. You are getting an out of memory? Can you send your gbpvr.exe.log to jared_dubin at hotmail.com

And you downloaded xrecord from the new wiki in the last 4-5 days?

ahh.yes it seems an upgrade didn't go well and i had parts of the old version still on there...now it shows and my xguide is there now too..
one question tho,the xguide is showing me weird stuff like dual channel numbers and channels i've deleted long ago...any way to clear this and start the db over fresh? probably related to a dirty install,so i'll be re-doing the whole thing fresh as i had my info zapped by cranking up a notebook with a different path for mdb [even tho it points same place] and i assume that'll fix the guide, but the dvd file shows now, so i will be trying it as soon as i can make room for the temp files...lol

it does kick off VLC properly so i think it's all fixed....and like the new skiin, but not seeing any key for what the bar at the bottom indicates..
[again, probably coming from the mixed install]
and would be nice if the button greyed out until playback possible..Smile

later today should have results...this will be a nice way to add user-configurable trancoding for just about any file types! [very usefull for us playback-type handicapped MVP users]
can't wait to get the xguide working right..Smile
oh and the sluggishness was caused by the VA plugin so all zippy again..
mucho gratis...

The two rows of channel numbers can be disabled in the skin. I am going to do that by default I think. As for old channels are they deleted or disabled?

free space on your recording drive. Green is free red is used.

I will investigate

I am a mvp user myself and added it before sub added xvid support.

> can't wait to get the xguide working right..
if you want we can take it offline and get it working. Send me a list of problems you are having with it to the email above.

glad to hear

Could you elaborate a bit on that point? What kind of sluggishness were you seeing and what were you doing at the time?

Can't speak for pBS, but since I've been using the VA panel, my menu system seems slower. Started using it at the same time I upgraded GBPVR though, so I'm not sure it's the VA panel. On a side note, I'm not interested in stocks on the panel but I'm not able to disable them. I unchecked the display stocks and removed all the stock entries, and it now says unvailable, I'm assuming because there are not entries. But I can't turn it off all together.
