I am also getting audio lag problems, resizing with ffdshow is working fine.
Could this have something to do with a pal or ntsc file.

Tried a fresh install to see if FFDSHOW resizing would work on the MVP BUT alas it still only works on the PC but not on the MVP.

Sub,
sorry to bother you with this again. Just thought I'd let you know where I'm at re FFDSHOW having no affect when transcoding for MVP. I downloaded Graphedit (intersting tool) and opened the mvptranscode graph file in the GBPVR directory. I then played a file through the set of filters specified in this graph file and sure enough the changes I make in the FFDSHOW raw filters are visible on the PC(e.g. OSD enabled). Yet I still see no changes on the MVP. I can't for the life of me figure out why as I assume the same graph file gets used when transcoding for playback on MVP (stating the obvious I know). If you or any of the other Forum members have any idea what's going on here please let me know. As an aside when I view an AVI file on the MVP and use the "connect to remote graph" in graphedit I see no filter graphs listed. I figured I should see the mvptranscode graph?
regards,
mvpaaagh.

Smile Finally got this working. Rather than running GBPVR service as a system account I am now running it as a locally defined user. With this change FFDSHOW filter changes impact playback on TV through MVP specifically image resizing. One problem remains with playback stopping after a few seconds. I am reasonably sure this will go away if I use the FFDSHOW DIVX decoder codec rather than DIVX's own codec. Will try tomorrow night.

I am having the eact same problem. Could you post a quick pointer as to how you changed t to a user vice system service? I am thinking you did it using the services utility.

Also would you know do I have to have the user the service is assigned to logged on every time to get the service to start?

I am curious since everyone in the family has their own user account on this computer. Wondering how I will make sure the service starts on reboots and such?

That problem should go away once I get a seperate computer built for GBPVR.

Thanks to anyone who can just point the general direction I can tinker from there.

Hi Gunr,
you are right in thinking the change is through the services applet. For XP take the following steps:
Start ->Control Panel -> Administrative tools ->services -> Right click the GBPVR Service -> Properties -> Log On tab -> Check "This Account" -> Enter username (typically in the format ./username) -> enter password and confirm -> OK -> Right click the GBPVR Service -> Restart. I'm sure this process broadly speaking holds for Windows 2000 etc. As to whether or not the user needs to be the logged on user I don't know. In my case I am typically logged on as a specific user and as such this is the account I chose to run the GBPVR service under. If I get a chance this evening I will try running it under an account which isn't logged on to see what happens. I will let you know what I find. If you get a chance to try this yourself in the meantime please let me know how you get on. Either way I hope this fixes your problem as it has for me.

Hey mvpaagh,
Ok well this morning I set the service to run under my login. Unfortunately you must set a log on password for the user account or the services option will not accept it. I could not get it to work wothout some kind of password.

Anyway after the change I reboted andlogged into my wifes account. Accordingtothe services applet the service was running under my account. So appears it makes no difference. It is starting the service and logging it in as my account.

Soo I tried running a Divx and the resize indeed worked. I looked at the graph and it showes ffdshow raw filter in the graph. So I am very satisified.

Thanks again for posting what you found. I had been trying everything and beating my head against the wall.

MVPAAGH,

That was inspired thinking! Yes, now FFDShow resizes as it should. We know
move on to the next problem: Trans2MVP.exe crashes with nearly every AVI.
I get that system death dialog over and over, sometimes with a divide-by-zero
warning. The video runs anywhere from 5 seconds to a couple of minutes and
then dies (some don't run at all actually, just a blinking play arrow then back
to the GBPVR menu).

I have plenty of horsepower on my box, it just seems that the above-
mentioned problem is real unstable.

Update using user accounts and ffdshow:

After some more experimenting I have ended up with this. I used the services applet to assign GBPVR to my Administrator account (since it requires a password). I then had to log on as the administrator and set the settings in Ffdshow raw filter.

It appears each user has their own FFdshow settings?

After this and a restart everything worked fine. Now I don't have to have a password assigned to my personal account!

I was thinking if you didn't want to use the administrator account you could set up a user account just for GBPVR with a password. Again log on and setup FFdshow on this account. Assign the service to the GBPVR account. Then you could hide that account from the welcome screen so nobody (kids) would mess with it since they don't even know it exist!

I do seem to have an audio lag problem and the image is to the left of the screen just a little. I'll search and tinker on those problems now!

Gunr,
thanks for the update. When I put a password on my account my wife thought I was trying to hide something. Like you I'll create a separate account for GBPVR. Glad to know were getting sommewhere with this at last.

mvpaaagh.

boondoggle,
regarding crashes etc. I can currently only play about 5 seconds of a divx file before it stops but I think this might go away if I use FFDSHOW DIVX codecs rather than DIVXs own codec. I'll experiment somemore with this over the nect couple of days and let you know how I get on.
regards,
mvpaaagh.
