Just wanted to report that last night I set the 2 channels that tried to grab epg info via channel to "none" and the c:\devxxxxxx\null.ts was not there. Do you think its related to the fact that those 2 channels don't have epg info? I don't mind keeping the setting to none, because the channels are extremely local (low power) that no tv guide has epg info for them.

Exactly the same problem here after updating to 3.1.1 - never had this problem before.
null.ts files listed in the status window and the tray icon is red. The tuner is unavailable until restarting the service, and then there's no problem! Again happens only overnight, likely being caused by EPG. Any chance of a patch to avoid this error!?
Loving the program and thanks for the continued updates / support.

I haven't been able to reproduce the problem at this stage.

@Haverer2
How do u have npvr grab EPG info? once I set my two suspect channels to not grab epg info, the problem went away. For the rest of my channels I have xmltv as the source (using mc2xml). I feel like the two channels either caused the error because they don't have EPG info or because I'm trying to get the their EPG info through their own channel info(ota).

Hi,
It grabs it from Over the air.... I could indeed set XMLTV for the channels that data doesn't arrive for.... the point is though that in 2.6.2 it didn't show this behaviour and I don't want to have it crash if guide data doesn't happen to be avaliable. I don't want to, but at the moment I think I'm going to take a step back to 2.6.2 as it was flawless.

if you want to dodge the problem, just setup a scheduled task to shutdown and restart the recording service before (or after) updating the EPG. "After" seems logical but I was running it before and it seemed to work around the issue. [edit: don't try doing this in the NextPVR .bat files as they themselves are called by the recording service so that will not work]

just create a .bat file with this in it and schedule it with windows scheduler
sc stop "NPVR Recording Service"
sleep 5
sc start "NPVR Recording Service"

Sub, my system reproduced the problem this morning (as I disabled restart of recording service). I used processexplorer to grab the threadlist and stacks for the 2 threads that were burning cpu cycles. Log included as well.

grrrr to bugs! If I could see it, I'd stamp on it for you! I'll just be patient... at least it's not something wrong with my setup, if others are experiencing it too!
