Argh, you're right - I never tested it with any freeview-only channels as DVB-T has lowest priority with my setup so the mixed (freeview/freesat) channels are always handled by the sat tuner.

Here's an example showing Top Gear. It lists:
- Track 1 [MPEG1, eng]
- Track 2 [MPEG2, eng, Visually impaired]

With 'eng' set, you get track 2 (which is silent for most of the time, bar the occasional 'they speed along the straight' comment).
With 'default' set, you get track 1 and the proper audio. But then those sat channels go wrong.

Possibly related to this (I'm not sure yet), I've come across a recording from a year ago that plays with no audio and not even the alt+g option can find it. It does play fine in mpc-hc though, and sticking it in an mkv with mkvmerge* also gets the audio to play in NPVR. (*that's a 10 second container-wrap operation; not a complete transcode).

It was probably made with a 2.x version, so I'll try reinstalling an older version later to see if it happens to play ok.

I can also post a sample if someone can remind me of the little app to hack a chunk out of a .ts file (it's a 4+ GB recording).

Have also done a quick test with 2.6.2 that was still on one of my PCs. No sound there either, but it does list two tracks with alt+g whereas 3.1.1 only lists one.

I think it might just be a corrupted start to the recording (and therefore unrelated to the original purpose of this thread), because if you cut an *end* chunk from it, then it does play with audio. Although it's still interesting to note the differences in 2.6 and 3.1.1 and the audio track options they present.

I get the same results as imilne: setting <LanguagePreference1>eng</LanguagePreference1> gets "16 And Pregnant" to play Track 4 [MPEG1, eng]; but unfortunately causes "Top Gear" to play Track 2 [MPEG1, eng, Visually impaired] even though Track 1 is [MPEG1, eng]. FYI I'm currently still running 2.6.2 without Patch 6, so this isn't related to 3.1.1 changes. I tried both AC3Filter and a Vista-era Microsoft decoder.

I also couldn't get any sound out of the "Merlin" chunk, reportedly [MPEG1, NAR] whatever that means. I thought H.264 channels in the UK were using HE-AAC?

On freeview (dvb-t), yes, but they use ac3 on freesat (dvb-s), which is where that Merlin clip is from. It does have an ac3 track in it, but NPVR isn't finding it.

I am having this problem in the current version of NPVR on just one channel. I have changed the languagepreference to eng in config.xml and it still continues to chose the wrong audio stream. There are two audio streams on this channel "eng" and "Track 2 [MPEG1]". I can manually change it and the "eng" channel plays fine. I have attached the log file. Any help will be much appreciated.

You'd probably need to supply short sample recording, so I can't check why the software is choosing the track it is.
