I've attached an export of my registry for that registry key, and it's siblings (which seemed related).

I notice that the NPVR Recording Service is set up with "Allow service to interact with desktop". See "Log On" tab of NPVR Recording Service Properties. I have run into a problems with this on Windows 8.1 (and Server 2012), where interactive services now cannot work by default. Microsoft switched the default behaviour in the latest OS's. If this isn't the cause of the problem here I am sure it will cause other problems.
To fix this for Windows 8.1 see https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library...s.85).aspx where it is explained how to set the NoInteractiveServices registry flag back to the same default it had before Windows 8.1.

It wont be related to this. The monitoring for the green button is done by NTray.exe, which is a standard process running on the user's desktop.

Thanks Sub - I'll check it out tomorrow when I should have a bit of time.
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

Just an update
Sub your reg keys and mine were identical - looked same + same hash when checked.

Found the cause of the double press - uninstalled Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard Center and Presses are mostly single (Remote is getting old)

Tried every trick on Google - remove ehome HID driver, ehome remote keyboard driver, unplug USB reboot change socket etc. but every time it installs as ehome remote keyboard, which I think is the problem No Green Button Command.

I've now given up and installed LM Remote Keymapper - mapped the Green button to NPVR in the default profile and seems to be working OK.

Lao,

I tried LM Remote Keymapper, as you suggested, and mapped the green button to nextpvr, but, WMC is still starting rather the nextpvr - is there something else that needs to be done (using W8.1)? It seems like I am missing some fundamental step.

I think it's Customize Remote - Change Remote Settings (at top of window) - exclusive use of remote, ticked - unplug / replug mce blaster.

If that doesn't work there is a more complicated way - but it is some time since I had mce on the computer. I'd have to look it up.

It's my belief that it is NOT the fault of NPVR, but rather that either of the remote or windows itself. Heck, I even setup LMRKM to launch notepad and it didn't work either - not on W8.1-64 or W7-64.

The remote works perfectly with WMC however, on 7, 8.0 and 8.1 - this is the remote - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...-_-Product

The remote that 2leftfeet mentions is an "MCE-like" remote rather than a "genuine MCE" remote. It does not use the ehome driver, but instead identifies itself as a keyboard/mouse device and sends keypresses rather than remote commands. It will work fine with WMC (and Kodi) but the keypresses don't match NPVR's, so it's mostly useless with NPVR. The MCE remote registry settings have no effect on this remote. I don't know if LMRKM or ir server suite will work to program it.

The key identifier is the small dongle; real MCE remotes have a much larger (2.5X2.5 square) receiver.
