Still fails on playback using NextPVR. Kodi playback is fine, and VLC is fine.

SO I went ahead and did a clean install of WIndows 10 and all is right between DWM.exe and using NextPVR to watch Live TV. I had installed another app to watch live tv previously and it had no memory issues so I'm going to chalk this one up to the DirectX June 2010 runtime which after it installed with Plex Home Theatre the memory issue between DWM.exe and NPVR returned, without it no memory issued.

Barry - Do you happen to have the DirectX June 2010 Runtime installed?

I don't show it in the update logs, but I cleaned the disk recently. My version of direct x is 12, see attached file. It does not give an update date. I did do a plex update so maybe it came in that way.

Under Kodi V17 I do not have the issue with playback. I still use the Nextpvr for recording shows, but this only occurs on my machine with playing back or TV shows/movies with the NextPVR built-in player. VLC and live TV works great.

If the DirectX Runtime is not installed on your system you should see the message shown in the attached file when you go to NPVR Settings menu main page. All of my DirectX settings indicated the latest version for Windows 10 as well. The DirectX Runtime is specifically installed by programs or users for backward compatability as I understand it with programs that are looking for specific files that do not exist in the latest version.

I've been fighting this issue since last week (hadn't been using the TV Tuner since the Anniversary Update). After other futile Google searches, I finally looked in the forums here and found this thread. Based upon it, I thought I would try reinstalling the DirectX 9.0c update; lo and behold... I've now had the tuner up for over 30 minutes, where dwm.exe would lately be using over 2GB of memory; and its currently using only 107MB. Its normally about 10-20MB after login, but isn't continuing to increase, and has actually dropped to 101 now. Crazy. Glad I didn't reinstall Win10... :-P Hope this helps!

I've had the June2010 DirectX update on a flash drive for years...but this appears to be the latest installer link:

Great find! I did some testing this morning and the fix seem to correct the DWM issue. Not sure what else it will break, but so far so good. Surprised this is not part of the run time installation for NextPvr.

Also no issues on Kodi, player etc.

I've also had the Windows 10 AU runaway memory problem with DWM. While watching TV, memory use just kept going up until I'd get an error message. For me, all it took was changing the video renderer from EVP to VMR7. I tried VMR9 first but that also was problematic. I know EVP uses Desktop Window Manager so it makes sense that the problem would be linked to its use. Not sure why VMR9 is also a problem. In any case, no problem with VMR7 - DWM memory use stays in the 15-20 MB range. For now, I haven't had to roll back the update or DirectX.

Good site to figure out what the different renders actually do. https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library...2147217396

So, presumably, it's Direct3D that hasn't been playing nice.
