Kodi timeshifting with version 5

Thanks for the feedback Lao Pan,  are the times for testing against v5?  There is no extended timeshift in v5 so you can try lowering the pre-roll time in the settings to 1.  18.6 won't offer any advantage for playback that I am aware of.

You do need to set knewc to Classic skin if you don't use Estuary or Confluence.  I really should change that before 2.80 is released.

Changed the timeshift mode to non extended and the pre cache from 8 sec to 1 sec - which unsuprisingly knocked about 7 seconds off all the times - which with the PCTV USB sticks I am using at present is probably about right (7 - 10 seconds). Once I can ween the Mrs. of off version 4 I can allocate the Haupage DVB-T2 tuner, which takes about 5 seconds to tune in native NPVR v4.

Great, you didn't actually need to change Extended Timeshift since it functions like Timeshift in V5, just the prebuffer time. That value is needed in v4 for EPG mode, which no longer exists, because the server side was never optimized but now in v5 no prebuffering is required unless you want to buffer a little at the beginning for more consistent play.

I have been a Windows Media Center user since the early days, with a DVBLink and EPGCollector backend server and multiple Intel NUC W7 MCE clients.  Now that MCE and DVBLink are end of life, I am evaluating an nPVR/EPGCollector Backend and Kodi clients, so a new user to nPVR and Kodi, but a computer literate user!

I have the latest build of nPVR V5 (tried Dec 24 and Jan 2) and have tried Kodi 18.5 and 19.0 alpha (latest nightly builds, Jan 2020).  Both run on the same test platform of Windows 10 x64 Pro.  I used the Kodi repository nPVR clients.

Kodi 18.5 will allow timeshifting against V5, but Kodi 19 will not.  On Kodi 19, I can run real time TV with no issue but when I change the advanced configuration to 'Timeshift' or 'Extended Timeshift', I get a message 'v5 timeshifting disabled', repeated when Kodi starts.  It is still able to show TV real time.  Each test was with a newly installed Kodi and running against the same instance of nPVR V5.  I have debug logs if required.

Since the nPVR can service 18.5 in real time and timeshift, and provide real time to 19, I suspect this is a Kodi/add on issue.  Are there some other parameters I need to set (using the defaults apart from the service config)?

Ahh, the joy of the New User - Sorry!  I took this comment ealier in the thread to mean that the addon was now part of the bulid:  "Sub approved the Matrix changes and they are now in the Kodi Matrix nightly builds."

No I was wrong in my post sub merged it ok but we both forgot that he also has to tag it to get it out there.  At this pre alpha stage of Matrix that makes it easier not having to do version bumps so will I wait until I add transcoded playback before I request the tag.

Well I'm trying the zip from the OP with 1 second pre-buffer (The 8 didn't pass the WAF)
So far it works flawless. Much better then the previous crash experience

I'm kind of curious where the cache is stored now, server or client ?
My client has an 32Gb SD card with the bootable OS on it
And also 32GB internal memory. It would be cool if I could use this internal memory
