If you had two separate channels, one with channel id 123, and another with channel id 124, and your merge them, only one of those two channels will exist after. ie, either 123 or 124, not both. If it's telling you the channel no longer exists, then it sounds like the recording is against the channel that no longer exists.

I think it sounds like another issue I posted about recently.  If you merge and delete a channel the currently scheduled recordings have the deleted channel oid until the next epg update when it creates them properly

Isn't that the whole idea of merging channels? They should become one channel. And anything scheduled against either should now be scheduled against the merged channel.

And, in my case, everything was scheduled against the old channels. Why would they have been "deleted" in favor of the just added new channels which didn't have anything scheduled against them?

But there were multiple EPG updates after the channels were merged. (The automatic overnight EPG update last night. And then another manual one that I just did.)

It isn't really a situation the application was designed to cope with. In my testing I'd pretty much done the channel setup and any merges etc prior to really starting to use the application (and scheduling recordings etc). The logic doesn't really cater for what happens to scheduled recordings when you add a tuner and merge later.

I suspect the behaviour will vary depending on if you use automerge vs manually merging two channels. With automerge it's probably slightly more predictable, with the oldest version of the channel (ie lowest id) being kept, and the newer version of the channel being merged into it.

It's definitely an area that could do with some more improvements.

That said, it's been pretty much the same since v4 days, and never generated much interest from user posts.

Its not merge time it is channel delete time that is the factor.

I first tried using automerge, but that doesn't work because the channel names aren't the same. And the automerge doesn't have an option to only merge based upon the channel numbers (which are the same).

So I had to restore my database backup and then I've been having to go through and manually merge the pairs of channels one at a time. And I still haven't gotten through all of them. (There are like 100 music channels alone.)

While adding tuners (or other capture sources like locast, IPTV, etc.) for existing channels later isn't something that people are going to do frequently, it still seems like something the application should support.

The channel "delete" time is the same time as the "merge" time. The merge is what is deleting the "extra" channel.

Yep, I agree. It really needs to move any pending/recurring recordings when it deletes a channel as part of a merge.
