I do understand my options for EPG. What I’m trying to determine is if the already provided OTA EPG on Astra 28.2 and in particular the already satisfactory Freesat EPG data can be simply injected into my channel list as it can be in TVHeadend using a simply defined Cron job on startup. Basically I’m trying to determine exactly what the Freesat option in NPVR actually does and how it needs to be configured to do so. Setting up a Cron job in TVH is a one off task and does exactly what I need it to do.

I’ve noticed when this question has been asked previously the user is directed to an external solution. All I need to know is if the Freesat EPG option as provided in NPVR actually works in Linux. If it doesn’t so be it.

Your question to sub actually, is Freesat EPG designed to work for SAT>IP? I noted that SAT>IP is multi-platform and is not Linux specific and the same logic applies on all platforms.

Whether Freesat EPG works on non-Windows platforms for digital tuners is certainly another question but it won't help you.

Note when I respond I try and give solutions for other users who might experience the same scenario. We are going in circles now so I will drop out and wait for sub.

That’s exactly what I suggested from the outset.

I’m making a side by side comparison between NPVR v TVHeadend. Don’t confuse the issue with my use of a Sat-IP tuner like the Digibit Twin. It is immediately recognised in NPVR and is configured exactly as it should be. It scans and finds all channels which in turn automap as they should do. The issue here is OTA epg and in particular OTA Freesat epg being made available to my channel list in NPVR.

I do understand the temptation to respond with suggestions and I thanked you for that but I think this issue is best dealt with by the author who can work with me on this to resolve the issue one way or the other if he is available.

I think you are confused by thinking there is just one Freesat EPG when in fact there are three variations; SAT>IP, Windows digital tuning and Linux digital tuning. Since you did not mention SAT>IP I am glad I asked for logs. Hopefully sub can answer this and perphaps provide a tuning solution other than XMLTV or Schedules Direct.

I did a number of tests on EPG using both a PCI DVBS tuner card and the SAT-IP DVBS tuner in both Windows and Linux. I can confirm now the only combination that works for the Freesat EPG is Windows/PCI card combination. No combination for Freesat EPG works under Linux.

Maybe you could highlight this to Sub as he hasn’t responded since my last post.

Sorry, I've just been busy with day-job and life stuff.

As far as I know, it should work under Linux. I'm not in that part of the world though, so some effort required to recheck this. I'd probably need someone to provide an updated full transport stream so I could check it here.

SAT->IP and DVB-S are two separate implementations of it (one in C#, the other in C++).

Just tell me exactly what you need and in what format.

Using TVHeadend on both the PCI tuner and the Sat/IP tuner in Linux it has no problem extracting a 7 day EPG guide and populating each channel accordingly.

I understand why it could be difficult to analyse these muxes on a service you cannot receive as you are based in New Zealand and your friend Martin is based in Canada.

If you do want to pursue this issue on 7 day EPG from Freesat 28.2 ota in Linux just let me know. Users don’t want to have to take out subscriptions for external EPG if they are already present ota.

You would need to capture a full mux capture for frequency on the satellite that provides the EPG. 11426 H I think. Although there are channel on that mux, ideally you'd want to provide a full mux capture for another frequency, maybe some Irish channels to confirm the correct mux is used. They are large so you would need to make them available from external services like OneDrive or Google Drive.

The easiest way is from dvbv5scan https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.ph...#pid581546

It think from minisatip I was able to get these files via SAT>IP this way https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.ph...#pid586797 if you have time you could test that too since the user has had trouble providing a full mux and I'd like to know if it work.

If you have questions let me know. My DVB test card doesn't support DVB-S I can check for data in them.

We’ve two muxes that were previously used to extract 7 day EPG from. They were 11426 H and 11778 V. 11426 H was used for Freesat while 11778 V was used for OpenTV Sky UK EPG. 11426 H appears to yield nothing while OpenTV Sky UK gives a full 7 day EPG which includes all the Freesat channels plus other FTA channels not included in the Freesat package on Astra 28.2.

To give you an idea what’s happening here I’ve included a link to a Github which may explain things a little and be of use to Sub trying to get this feature working in NPVR under Linux

I am a bit confused about the 11426 channel since I thought it was 11426 but sub's release notes for 6.1.2 say

Freesat is looking for EPG data on both 11428,H,27500,2/3 and 11778,V,27500,2/3

I know sub has noted that NextPVR doesn't support Open TV (that is not Freesat BTW) maybe we need 11426, 11428 and 11778

You could likely script use of openTVtoXML https://github.com/jahutchi/openTVtoXML in the UpdateEPG.sh file.
