Just an update. I disabled the zap database (renamed it) and the web interface works again. The database must be locked by the zaptools interface for some reason when it updates after the EPG.

jsteele....here are some questions and options for now....

I can look into this when I get back from vacation....after 8/29.

I am interested if anyone else is experieincing this....if anyone is please let me know.

I have not heard of any locking issues with zaptools zapdb.mdb (other than yours) and I know there are quite a few people using it. I am suspecting it is something particular with your configuration.

Where is gbpvr installed and running in relation to where the zapdb.mdb file?

Is the .mdb file on the same drive as wher GBPVR is or do you have it stored on a network drive somewhere else?

What time does your EPG update occur? If you setup your postupdateepg.bat file correctly the zapdb.mdb file will be update following your EPG udate and if you are trying to access the DB during this time you could get a conflict. I run mine at 3:00 a.m.

Is gbpvr running under a local or system account? I know some people, including myself, set gbpvr to run under a local account to address some issues with ffdshow running correctly through the MVP.

The only time the DB should be locked for anything is during the load and compcat processes. All other access via zapimport or the web admin are done via standard opens which should cause no locaking issues.

Do you have Xrecord loaded and running? This uses the zapdb.mdb file....I am not sure what or how it uses the DB.

You first mentioned that you experienced the locking when you accessed the zapdb.mdb file from another computer. If you restart your gbpvr machine (thus releaseing all locks) and do not access the file from any other machine other than the gbpvr machine it is located on do you still have the problem?

I suspect you are correct.

Quote:Where is gbpvr installed and running in relation to where the zapdb.mdb file?
zapdb.mdb is in the GBPVR directory

Quote:Is the .mdb file on the same drive as wher GBPVR is or do you have it stored on a network drive somewhere else?
Same drive.

[QUOTE>What time does your EPG update occur? I install GBPVR from a user aqccount that is a member of the administrator group

Makes sense. But this morning, and on other occasions under 92.11, zapimport has crashed for some reason. I suspect this could leave the DB locked. But the web access problem also occured after a reboot.

Quote:Do you have Xrecord loaded and running? This uses the zapdb.mdb file....I am not sure what or how it uses the DB.
No

See earlier comments about failing after reboot.

Right now I have disabled zapimport pending a resolution

Thanks

John

Ok....just for grins try the following....I had one other person that had an issue with the compact blowing out and it turned out that there was an improperly registered dll.

Go to the following directory and open a command window:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\ADO

Enter the following command:
regsvr32 msjro.dll

This should re-register the dll (this is the Jet database library).

Reboot and see what happens.

Let me know....if there are still problems with is failing post the log from your postupdateepg.bat process (assuming you are using the zapimport userid password >zapimport.log command line).

The Enhanced Web Admin is a great utility that, in my mind, makes GB-PVR stand out above the competition. The ability to remotely schedule a recording is great. That being said, I have one very small issue (I know I'm being anal) with the TV Guide in Internet Explorer. Not all the vertical line show in the guide. All lines show in Firefox when I use it from home. Does anyone else see the same behavior? The first response will be why are you using Internet Explorer in the first place? Because at work, it's the only browser allowed! Thanks.

I think you can 'tweak' this not to happen by fiddling with the value on the config page. Try setting the minute slice to a bigger number like 15. This is probably an IE issue with rending more than 100 columns.

I am fairly new to GB PVR but I am really loving it so far. Yesterday I decided to install the build 24 Enhanced Web Admin plugin/util. Everything looked fine when I went to the Guide page but as soon as I clicked on anything I would receive an Error page. I tried to go to Admin.aspx and I noticed in the trace of the error page that stated that it was attempting to go to c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr\web\admin.aspx.cs. I installed GB PVR under c:\program files\gbpvr\ without "devnz". Is there someplace where I can change where the aspx files are looking for each other? Thanks for any help.

I'm still getting failures at ZAPTOOLS invocation. This is the log that it created:
---------------
Using Path C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\

Start downloading Zap EPG data...
Completed download of Zap EPG data...

Begining zapdb.mdb update process...

Removing GBPVR Recording Entries...

---------------
It is throwing some kind of exception when it ZAPTOOLS executes. It apparently fails and leaves the ZAPTOOLS.MDB in an indeterminate state.

When you loaded zaptools did you make sure to load the latest zapdb.mdb file? When you look in the zapdb.mdb file do you see the following table:

GBPVR_Recordings

Zapimport appears to be failing on the step that deletes all the entries from this table....prior to the 8/2 release this table was not in the zapdb.mdb and you had to replace your existing one with the new zapdb.mdb that has the new table.

Let me know.
