Admittedly, I am a newb when it comes to Samsung apps. In this case I think I am doing something terribly wrong here and as you probably can tell, I am quite confused.

I am using NPVR 3.3.8 and have tried both 27.3 and 26.4 versions of the app. I am using Gigabit wired ethernet from server to TV. The server is based upon an Intel E8400 dual core cpu running W8.1 pro.

After going through the install process using "SmartTV app loader" I was able reach the http://my-server-ip:8866/touch3/client3.htm webpage from my desktop.

On the TV, I started Samsung's web page, entered the same URL and saw a screen where it asked me to enter the server IP, which I did.

After a few seconds, the NEXTPVR UI page was displayed and I selected guide via a usb mouse and the guide was displayed. After that, channel selection and associated controls became very unresponsive when using either mouse or keyboard.

I could use the on-screen buttons with the mouse to navigate the UI somewhat, but the buttons went across the middle of the screen. When I selected a channel to watch, it would take over a minute to get a live picture and when the picture did appear, the on-screen buttons still were in the middle of the screen, blocking portions of the picture. Navigation was very difficult. Something doesn't seem right.

Question: Should there be an "app" available for this in Samsung's Smart Hub as is for Reven's app? If so, I could not find one and the only way to get to the NEXTPVR UI is through the Samsung's web page - Here is point of my confusion.

Also, I was not able to locate an "info or settings button" anywhere at any time during this process.

I am afraid I might be doing something wrong. I think I am missing a step or two in this adventure?

Hi 2L,

Now I think I know whats going on.
You are not accessing NextPVR from my app but from the Samsung web browser.
It is (somewhat) possible to use the browser but it's experimental and remote doesn't work (as you have discovered).

You need to install the app "NextPVRWeb launcher" onto your TV using the apploader (Samsung tab).
Except that you use the apploader and your local computer's IP-address instead of one from a server on Internet it is the same procedure.

The basic steps:

Start the apploader
On Samsung tab select “NextPVRWeb Launcher”

Now log in as develop on TV and use the IP-address from the apploader.
Now select “Start User App Sync” and after a while the app should be there, ready to run.

Good luck!

/Fred

Edit:

Fred, that explains a lot and fills in some missing pieces. But I am still having one issue preventing from moving forward - I get to the point where I am logged in as develop, entered the IP and click on "start User App Sync" , then I get a message saying the an app sync was requested with an "ok" button. But nothing after that. The message just hangs there and if I hit the OK button, nothing happens and no new app is displayed. You say that after a while, the app should be there - how long is "after a while? seconds, minutes, hours?

Thanks again

The newer Samsungs have a tendency to silently ignore errors when synchronizing user apps.
Also a few of them won’t let you install the standalone app “NextPVRWeb” you are only allowed to install “NextPVRWeb Launcher”.

Anyway, if you skip the apploader and enter 76.76.102.42 for IP at sync it should install the “NextPVRWeb Launcher”.
Using 76.76.102.42 there are no options like in the apploader, all you get is the “NextPVRWeb Launcher”.

A sync will take seconds up to a minute or so depending on the number of apps being synched.

Fred,

That did the trick! Thanks so much Fred for your patience and help.

Overall it is a very nice app, but I noticed several things right off:
1. keyboard works fine, as does the TV's remote, but mouse does not work - is that common?
2. on the Guide, current channel/time displays in the center column , not in the left column (as does NEWA or most other guides I have used) - is this normal?
3. Certain channels work fine (both SD & HD), others I get audio only (no video), other channels neither audio nor video - all the channels with issues work fine with NEWA.
4. Sometimes on a channel change to a working channel, the app hangs - all I am seeing is the rotating "please wait" circle.

Again, thanks for your help!!

Mouse is not fully supported.

Will this be in Guide from main menu or in popup mini guide inside Live TV?
How does it differ from native NextPVR client, because it shouldn’t?
- A screenshot maybe?

Will this be both Live TV and recorded programs?
Some people have reported that files recorded from certain channels would need a “remux” before they can be played on the Samsung.
Bad signal quality may be a factor too. Some players handles these errors better than others.
The Samsung player is not the forgiving kind like VLC is.
I don’t think there is much I can do to the actual app to fix this.

On channel change the app just asks for a new Live Stream on channel-x.
If the server can’t provide the stream there's not much of error handling.
I guess there is room for improvement here Smile

Fred, again I appreciate your quick responses!

Item 2. guide - after looking at the native NPVR client again I realized that it works the same, so -never mind- sorry about that!

Item 3. Only tested Live. All channels are fed to NPVR via MPEG2 from a silicondust hdhomerun prime via Gigabit ethernet. All channels fine work on the TV when connecting directly to the hdhomerun prime using DLNA. So, I am not sure it's a bad signal or a matter of remuxxing.

Observation:
My TV service provider is Verizon FiOS which provides digital cable via fiber optic cable to my premise. Verizon provides both local HD & SD channels -and- cable only channels on the fiber cable which is available to the hdhomerun device. on the native NPVR client, NEWA clients, WMC clients, Samsung DLNA and VLC, all channels work perfectly. On the Samsung app, I have noticed that only the local channels work, whereas, the cable-only channels (such as CNN, FOXNEWS, etc.) do not work. This leads me to think that there might be something in the signal encoding/protection of the cable-only channels is causing the issue. Thoughts?

Do you have a short recording from one of the problem channels that you can provide?

I will message you with the link of the file that you can download. Interesting, even though the channel is not shown or heard on the TV, NPVR's live buffers contain playable files from those channels not seen on the TV. In other words, the live buffering is working on the the problem channels fine, just not being played on the TV.

I think this is the same problem reported by others.
I don't know exactly why but a simple remux makes the file playable on Samsung.
As a work around you may add a remux command to postprocessing.bat.
It won't help for live TV though. Sad

Code:
ffmpeg -i "live-cnnhd-1568-72.ts" -acodec copy -vcodec copy "live-cnnhd-1568-72.ts_1.ts"

I am running the NextPVR App on my Samsung TV and when I attempt to view a Recording or LiveTV i just get a Swirling Circle and no Audio or Video.

The Samsung TV is Hard Wired on my network, I had Windows Firewall turned off on my NextPVR PC.

I have attached the Logs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom
