I heard mythtv supports the 350 fully.
However I don't own a 350 & i'm not about to buy one just so I can play with mythtv.
I just wish the linux side of things was more polished & less cryptic.

My biggest problem with Mythtv was that read the wiki is the most popular answer on the forums.
Except, the wiki usually doesn't contain the answer's you need.

i also tried mythtv, a few times. I used fedora, knoppmyth, and ubuntu and could never get it all setup... I then tried media portal but couldn't get the transcoding how I wanted. Someone finally mentioned gbpvr and I couldn't be happier. Easy to make it work how I want, looks good, great forums, and runs fine on windows.

And I got my windows from the MSDN thing via my school too. I think the whole point is to take it home.

Well - After a week of trying I`ve switched back to Mythtv.

I simply couldn`t get the whole windows - hardware - gbpvr thing to perform anywhere near as stable as my original Myth install. Sad

For anybody that might be interested - I have been working on a howto in my spare time.

I spent4 months getting mythtv working (sound, video, remote control, etc) and was finally stable. I decided to take the plunge and add a pvr150 and spent another week watching my time evaporate as I jacked with it. I finally found GBPVR and installed it. Had it running ever since. Big Grin

Just for my own peace. I learned Windows first for many years then Linux was showed to me by a Unix Guru. I tried it for a while. It is good, it is stable, but everything is meant to be hidden even though it is open source there is a smugness that we know better than you.

Then home entertainment reared it's head. I tried some Windows options, and then I tried Myth on Linux as the Windows packages did not deliver all that I wanted.

Myth on Linux was very close to delivery but ultimately impossible, complicated, and far away from what I needed, and so I went back to the drawing board to find out what I wanted from a PC based entertainment system.

I found out about GB-PVR, mainly through its support of the Hauppaugue MVP and that it currently offers me everything I need, well nearly, with some few improvements to make it better Smile

Nice and good work Dev Team and ultimately to Sub

Its a shame you had problems Duncan, any particular issues we could try help to resolve?

Most people here (myself included) seem to have pretty rock steady setups, with a few little duct-tape-esq solutions, the general experience usually seems to be pretty good.

I have yet to duct tape a computer together, although I am sure someone out there has put a machine together using only duct tape... I need to remember to look for that when I am bored sometime :p

I had problems with the UI - "index out of range" when viewing the EPG. This would cause me to lose focus on gbpvr and I could only resolve it by exiting with the mouse.

I have two HVR1300`s. The dvb side worked flawlessly however I couldn`t get the Analogue side to function well at all. The first card would leave 0byte recordings the second none at all. A quick test with sagetv worked fine.

I did have irq issues that where difficult to resolve (which are not a problem under linux).

I`m back with mythtv now and happy to stay. There are some big feature enhancements coming in the next release which tickle my fancy.

I have another card (Compro) so I might chuck it my work pc and tinker some more.

Duncan,
Just a word of warning - Compro's VideoMate windows drivers are a real issue. If you are using a DVB-T200/300 make sure you use v1.3.1.24 drivers.
To be honest, Myth is great but I'm not a Linux expert - I only deal with a couple of boxes at work, the rest are MS. At the time I was using Myth I would be forever tweaking things. I did the same for about 6 months with GBPVR until I finally was happy. It's just that I wasn't able to break GBPVR as easily as I did with Myth.
Best of luck!
