I have disposed of the '...' boxes. I added tooltips to tell you that now you doubleclick to get the dialog

The reason is in VB there is a limited number of controls I can have in a project on one form. I have exceeded that many times. Even a label is considered one control. So to dispose of the seven or eight browse buttons, makes room for more features...

So a quick update on this because it has been a few days and I haven't had too much time to work on it.
Basically I think I am close to solving this whole problem where the transcoding stops before it should, even though the FPS is above 45.
I am using zprocess 1001, uninstalled k-lite mega codec pack , and reinstalled v1.7 with all options enabled, and also used the right mencoder version from http://tirnanog.fate.jp/mirror/mplayer/

So far so good, we will give it another week or so before coming to any conclusions...

The KLite Mega Codec pack doesn't play a part in MVP or ZProcess Transcoding because it doesn't contain either ffmpeg or mencoder/mplayer. But it's always good to keep up to date...

The Mencoder concerns me. My VerifyFiles function got fooled obviously, if you think the link above brings you to the 'right' MEncoder version... It should have caught the different version and told you...

ZProcess is written under the assumption that you have the version that is straight from the horses mouth, and in default status. (if you tweak, I will end up chasing my tail)

http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html is the page and
you're looking for this file: MPlayer-mingw32-1.0rc1.zip

Installed, the default directory is: c:\Program Files\mplayer , although if you choose a different path, and tell ZProcess about it should be fine...

So another update on this, I never did manage to figure it out, and there was really no way to log what the exact error was from either FFMPEG or MENCODER, at least no way that I could figure out. I ended up buying a new dual-core computer and it seems to work okay now, so it could have been anything, guess we'll never know...

Just recently, I got a hold of a couple of movie avis that would transcode at about 60 fps and yet always die at about 30 secs into the movie.

After playing around, and certainly after getting past the "the fps is good, shouldn't have to look at that" phase. I increased the GB-PVR MVP pre-play delay from 5500 to 7500 and it played fine after that. I never had to change anything else.

I suspect there was flaw in the file and when the hiccup occurred, it ate some of the pre-play lead time up.

Now into this thread, because I am experiencing the same problem as I believe is being described here.
No problem with manual transcode.
Transcoding on-the-fly stops without any apparent reasons mentioned in this thread. fps is adequate so 30min was transcoded while I had only watched 15 min. I had also set 10 seconds wait before playback.
Now, and this is the strange part: I get different behaviour depending on the avi-file.
Was any conclusion found? Also, who is killing the transcode?
(I am still with gbpvr 99.12)

WOW you get around. I'm seriously thinking you should have your own thread. Anyway...

ZProcess will work the same for 98.x and up...

The main reason that people have for the the Transcoder not finishing is the operation is not fast enough to keep up with GB-PVR, and that there are competing processes...
http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utili...cess#toc31

Also, the fact that it seems different on different files indicates that some of your AVIs are not encoded the same way. When testing, I actually downloaded an offending file and had the same trouble myself. So all AVIs are NOT the same!

The latest version of ZProcess v 1.0.15 uses a new mechanism to detect the info on a AVI file. It is supposed to be faster, but you still may want to increase the pre-play delay in GB-PVR..
http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utili...cess#toc31

ZProcess2 has made even further improvements. But you will still need to ensure that your computer is not bogged down by competing processes.

Sure, but what do you really mean by "the operation is not fast enough"? It is not the case that the MVP catches up and tries to take a bite beyond the EOF (for this case). What I was guessing is that the feed produced by the transcoder is not up to GBPVR's expectations. Perhaps too little data is produced at a certain point in time. Even though it is well ahead. Timing problems?

And yes, my computer is filled with a lot of excessive stuff. So I am fast approaching the point in time where a complete reinstall is needed. I will only have this PC for GBPVR over MVP and media server. Also use a very light-weight virus software.

Perhaps you didn't want to read it all... (there's a lot)

An On the Fly Transcode means a file is created while it is being viewed. That means that the transcoder has to create the file FASTER than it is being viewed. The 5.5 second default preplay delay gives the transcoder a head start to creating the file.

Things that can eat up that precious lead time are:
  • Competing processes
  • slow CPU processor
  • hiccups in the AVI itself
  • ZProcess itself having trouble quarterbacking the whole operation

Often the quickest fix is increasing the preplay delay. Try 7500 or 8000

As you pointed out, it may be time to redo your computer.

What you may want to do first is:
Use msconfig and turn off all auto start programs and NON MICROSOFT services (except the GB-PVR service of course)

*** Be sure to keep note of what you disabled so you can re-enable them if necessary

Defrag... yada yada...

This should give you a good idea is you will benefit from a reinstall of windows...

PS ZProcess2 will also have this trouble. The PVR has to be a clean running computer
