Wow - how things change! I've been kinda out of the forums for while ( GBPVR is working well as usual Smile ). I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that had trouble following some of tipstirs posts. The one that really cracked me up was when he posted an "architecture diagram" of his GBPVR system and wanted everyone to drool over it. I see a lot of computer architecture diagrams at work, but I couldn't make heads or tails of his.

Anyway, I wish him well with Sage!

i had enough of his nonsense that i had placed him on my ignore list. unfortunately the bb feature doesn't block initial posts so his new threads would leak through. i'm glad to know i wasn't the only one that thought his skins looked as though there were made by a toddler using those fat Crayola crayons... kudos to sub for finally putting an end to the misery.

During my undergrad years, I was introduced to the term "crippler" by a dear friend. This is that one person in class exhibiting one or more of the following class crippling behaviors making the learning the process all but impossible:

-Constantly interrupting by thinking aloud or with off-topic, unsubstantiated or irrelevant nonsense.
-Either relating a personal experience or making some comment after the instructor finishes every theme/thought.
-Pretending to know more about any given subject than is actually the case.
-Exhibiting generally distractive behavior.

This breed can be found in almost all classrooms and usually make themselves known within minutes, however, these people graduate and make their way into the mainstream where they are slightly more difficult to identify, but hardly less distracting. You know you're in the presence of a crippler if everyone cringes or rolls their eyes when the individual speaks. Rest assured, time spent in the presence of said person will have a detrimental affect on the whole. Engaging and/or encouraging them usually ends up in further frustration. They do not respond to subtlety as they tend to exist in realm of reality where, surely, common sense is dictated by an imaginary friend and freedom of speech is construed as entitlement. The concept of "eating crow" is far too abstract to comprehend facilitating their frequent outbursts.

Ah yes, I know those people - in my experience at university, it was always the "older" students who did this - I guess all of the young people just wanted to get out of the lecture / lab asap.

I remember one lady, who when she raised her hand, or started to speak, there was a collective sigh from 300 people, and I think that included the lecturer.

... and now it's quite likely she's a troll on some unfortunate forum. Big Grin

He had his fans, and had his detractors.
Most don't know the extent of his posts which led to his removal, and lets just let it go.

Sometimes I wonder if I would be considered a crippler. Certainly I have relaxed and allowed myself to 'think out loud' within this community. And some of my advise was/is incorrect. With my app development, I often release versions of my software that cause more problems than fix them, and perhaps I'm too quick to post a reply...

I have had a 'bit' of experience working with networks, and was always intrigued with tipster's network tweaks. Although I saw throughput improvements, it killed certain abilities and prevented me from trying the mvpmc project as well as other problems. I'm preparing for a rebuild, and going to stick to my own advice I give so often: "Use the defaults"

I remember PMing tipster and suggested that he stay on track a bit, and that this board would not be the best place to discuss Hauppauge Software's skins. (It's far too easy to make those skins anyways, not really that impressive a feat)

I now see I was not alone, and that there were more and more friendly suggestions that he ignored. I felt that he was just someone that one would have to put up with while working in the forum. Like mosquitoes at a nice family campfire.

He certainly gave me an example of behaviour to avoid; of how important it is to consider an opinion, and objectify suggestions.

I would hope that if I were to disappear from the forums, my legacy (currently fifth place in posts), would not be deleted from history.

I suppose it would have been TOOOOO much work to cull the positive from his large amount of posts.

Perhaps everything now is at it should be...

me too. I know I don't have a lot of experience but when I see a question that I have read the answer to before, I think I am helping by replying quickly so that the new problems can be answered by others. I am so grateful for the help I have received in the past, I just want to return the favour when I can.

There's a difference between being helpful and being a nuisance. While I believe his heart was in the right place, I also believe his zealotry was his undoing. Whereas I found much of this comical, I'm sure those dealing with it on a daily basis found it to be anything but.

It's never fun to see anyone get hurt, although I'm thoroughly enjoying Dallas spanking the Eagles up and down the field, but contrary to popular internet belief, this is a private forum subject to rules and moderation. Democracy and censorship are at the discretion of the owner. Big Grin
