Here are my files. (Remove the ".txt" extension after downloading them and drop them into HIP's installation folder)

"My HTPC.hip" is my HIP configuration file. Load it into HIP via the "File / Open Configuration..." option.

"My HTPC.hip" is the combined key map for MCE and Harmony remotes. Load it into HIP via the "Remote I/O / Remote Key Map / Open Key Map" option.

I did not modify the functionality of the MCE keys. I'm using the Harmony remote as a super-set of the MCE remote. So both remotes work fine. (Guess which is my wife's and which is mine Big Grin)

The sticky key problem is less to do with HIP/Event Ghost/MCE remotes in general and more to do with the USB receiver. I believe SMK RXXX6000-0141E receiver is wholly to blame for this. The receiver works flawlessly in Vista, but has the sticky key problem in Windows XP ( MCE or Pro ).

I searched on the internet and tried everything I could. It is basically a Vista only device, the drivers you and I use are not exactly correct. I tried pulling the drivers off of a Vista computer, and it didn't work out because Vista uses a different style framework for remotes.

Good Luck

Squid, have you contacted Hauppage about this? If your conclusion is true, that would be very annoying since I bought my HVR-1600 MCE kit based on it saying that it supported XP. They must have had a remote receiver at one time that DID work with XP. I have sent an email to their support group to see if they have either a driver or a replacement remote receiver, but if they hear from more people with the same problem, they might get a clue that they need to either fix what they put in the kit or fix the description!

sonoma03 Wrote:Wakalaka, I found another EventGhost configuration file someplace that starts without any errors, and that's the one I was trying to use when I said that EventGhost wasn't logging any key presses. I have attached the file. It is for the version 2 MCE remote. The one I have is identified in the GBPVR Wiki as the version 2a remote, only it is made by Hauppage instead of Microsoft.

Your error probably comes from not using the latest version.

Grab the latest _Setup.exe and _Update.exe files from http://www.eventghost.org/downloads as the link above outlines. I'm using version 0.3.6 build 1262.

Double hit is a result of not using the replacement MCE driver. I had this problem even when I used HIP. Then I found out about the replacement driver and the issue went away. However, I found that HIP was hard to configure, and EventGhost is MUCH easier for the MCE remote. I can't speak for other remotes, all I know is that the configuration with EventGhost is far easier than HIP.

Same here - I had the double hit "out of the box" until I upgraded to the replacement MCR driver. Hip was a nightmare to configure, until I downloaded the myhip.hip file from the wiki, changed GBPVR.exe to PVRX2.exe and it works fine.

Mucaro Wrote:Sonoma03, where did you get that replacement IR driver from? EventGhost, HIP, or somewhere else?

I got it by following the link at http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Tips/EventGhost which took me to http://www.byremote.com.au/Hip/mce_remote_faq.htm, which gave the download link to http://burningzeroad.free.fr/MceIrApi.rar.

Just to follow up, I have been exchanging email messages with Hauppauge technical support. The support person told me that the SMK remote receiver that I have is for Vista only, like Squid said, and told me to send them the receiver so that they can swap it for an XP one. So I do think there is a driver issue with this receiver, and I suspect that the replacement MCE driver is also incorrect for this specific receiver, which is why I can't get EventGhost to register any key presses with it. My suggestion for anyone having this problem with the same SMK model of remote receiver is to contact Hauppauge about getting a different receiver.
