oops now I can not even get your pluggin to load..

I unistalled gb-pvr and delete ( actually renamed it for comparison reasons) the directory.. afterwards I had a clean capture source windows. not several instances of external recorder that I could not edit ( only through the registry was I able too)..
but from the looks of it your pluggin has a persisant memory of some form because for some reason it looking for it on your computer..

at ExternalRecorder.ExternalRecorderConfig.Load(Int32 captureSourceOID) in c:\documents and settings\norman\my documents\visual studio projects\externalrecorder\code\externalrecorder\externalrecorderconfig.cs:line 113
at ExternalRecorder.ExternalRecorder.Load(Int32 captureSourceOID) in c:\documents and settings\norman\my documents\visual studio projects\externalrecorder\code\externalrecorder\externalrecorder.cs:line 201

this is something I could not possibly know but yet it is coming up on my computer.. that kind of weird..

Yea those paths are to the file that it compiled from, those are purely for debugging purposes. It's complaining that it can't read the config in the registry, so you'll have to open the config app and reconfigure the plugin. (possibly you got caught by the bug that doesn't save the settings properly the first time it's configured).

You could also just rename the registry values from 0Confusedetting to 1Confusedetting.

okay I guess there something a bit funky in gb-pvr when it comes to non native pluggins.. I being trying to get it to loads with out any success then. I switched back to the archived directory of gb-pvr, it still did not work at first, then gb-pvr did one of it random re installs it does every once in awhile now the pluggin loads..

( also in the mean time I figure out how to delete a priory entries when it is related to non native pluggin change it to a native plugin then delete it..)

okay but now I got it to record and play the recording udp broadcast... but when I tried a preview it crashed .. I keep hacking away to see if I get any more headway on the preview mode.. it loads vlc then a debug window pops up crashed at such and such and that is as far as I got.. okay I now got it to work in preview still get a debug window then it kill gb-pvr and the preview continues to play in vlc..

also curiously I set gb-pvr to record for ten minutes, it seemed to record only for ten minutes but it still displays that it is recording it being 20 minutes now..

it is your pluggin, I believe, causing a fault in gb-pvr.

paraphase of error

microsoft visual C++ debug libary

debug assertion failed
in gbpvr.exe
atlmfc\include\atlcomcli.h
line 150
expresstion p!=0

I checked the logs nothing written about this basically thet say live preview started then when it crashes the log stops there..
but I see it some what related to vmr if I switch to overlay manager I do not get the error to much later. ie: I click on a gb-pvr button afterwards

I included a debug log about the crash perhaps it has something in there that is useful.. I only get the debug log via overlay manger other wise if it is vmr it is a straight kill and the debugger can not catch the error..

ps) I still wish that perhaps you might add the option for preview to read a specific file.( set the preview to record to a specific file and a radial check ( fore those who might need it or want it to read from a file to display "live" with in gbpvr). this works fine via the desktop but I output via a mpeg hardware card ( simga xcard or netstream typ cards). and I can not view it unless I record it first. but then I can not "channel surf".... but just a thought..

I have seen this same error. In all cases I have seen it when my kids are watching a video using the MVP, GBPVR is recording a different file, and I am running either Internet Explorer and/or Firefox on the server PC. When I close the browser, the error occurs. The video keeps playing just find on the MVP and the recording continues. If I click ignore everything continues to work fine. The first time I saw this happen is with .15. I haven't tried reproducing it with a newer release.

unfortunatly that error is pretty difficult to track down (due to lack of stack trace, and it seems to be crashing in microsoft's own code).

but besides that, maybe build 2 won't break :-)

sash: what about turning preview mode off? will that do what you want?

perhaps I being naive, what is, or where is turn off preview mode.. is that where I just uncheck the prewiev button for display in gb- pvr??? and basically just use the record function to preview.. this way works fine.. but just makes channel surfing difficult.. unless your speaking of a another method.. of turn off the preview..???

How would I turn on the stack trace, if I can, I will try to get it for you... I am using vb6.. ( I do not program that much so I do not know the ins and outs of the program..)

In the gb-pvr configuration application: Under the Misc tab, in the Live PreviewMode section, turn 'Use Live Preview mode if possible' off.

Watching "live" TV from a different PC on my home network is also something I want to do. I am able to do this by using VNC to access GBPVR running on the server, selecting the channel using TV guide and then opening the resulting file using VLC on a network attached PC.

That works, sort of. After watching the program for a while, however, GBPVR pretty much "freezes" on my server and I need to kill it if I want to change channels. Freezes in the sense that it won't respond to comments (via VNC anyway), but it's still chewing up 90+ percent of my CPU.

My preferred solution would be run a "client" version of GBPVR which would function much like the server version, except using the capture source on the server.
