Does anyone know if this is an accepted issue with npvr that may be addressed in a future release by sub, or is it thought to me more of an issue related to individual setups?

Thanks,
Shaun

sub hasn't said, but there's enough of us with the problem that I'd hope he'll be able to investigate it at some point in the future.

Perhaps we should start listing what we're using to try and spot any similarities.

Audio renderer: default
Codecs: mpeg and ac3 (both ac3filter)
SD or HD channels: happens with both
Audio hardware: ATI 5450 HDMI out
Live TV: UK freeview and freesat transmissions

Do you get it with DVB-S HD channels? I've only had it with non AC3 audio channels (UK SD - more noticeable the crapper the channel and Irish DVB-T). I say that, I wonder if it does happen on all channels but isn't noticeable enough on HD/AC3 channels.

The common factor seems to be the need for both AC3 and mpeg audio. I am using spdif optical out.

Yep, I get it with the HD BBC channels.

This probably doesn't help you because I don't have the issue, but my setup is

Ac3 filter
Freeview SD+Freesat HD
2ch SPDIF
I cant remember what I have the renderer set to, pretty sure default

Do you have the issue after a re-boot, or does it develop with time?

Uk Freeview HD
Using latest DivX aac codec no problem - as far as I can remember.

UK Freeview SD
Using FFDshow - If all other codecs disabled (Not Acceptable) no problem, otherwise glitchy audio - on BBC1 ITV1 not to bad but on lower bitrate channels very poor. Going to 10 seconds or more timeshift fixes it, but wife seems unable to comprehend.

In another thread I recall Sub saying some ts streams are more "bursty" than others - it seems that if more than one audio codec is loaded there is no longer enough buffer memory left to smooth out the audio.
While Googling for some pointers I came across on I think Myth Forum a similar problem where they suggested increasing the frame buffer from 128mb to 256mb. Obviously I don't know what NPVR uses at present and we have no way of changing this ourselves.
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

The streams are probably fine. They work with GBPVR (with the same codecs), and they work with standard set-top boxes, so it has to be something different in the way NPVR is processing them. It was looking like a UK-only problem at one point, but there have been reports from other locations as well now.

I've trained the wife to press pause then play when the sound is glitchy which solves the problem even if it's an instant press of pause then play. Certainly dont have to wait 10 seconds or so.
