Sorry for the confusion, the NMT doesn't use a dongle so I thought you meant a link to mvpmc. For the NMT I prefer people use the NSIS installer NMTInstall2 to install and update mvpmcx2 which works for both NextPVR and GBPV. However I gave up trying to convince users here that it better method and also make a direct download available. This has given me an extra headache of having to use the same file name for downloading. Using the wiki as the source will make my life easier, I will redirect all direct links to the wiki.

I've had an initial crack at the Client.NMT page. Can an NMT expert give it the once over.

The old page is backed up here. How useful (to a lot of NMT users) are the Tips and Tricks left on this page? Are they worth wiki space?
  • Getting into NextPVR quickly
  • Automatically load NextPVR
  • More than one server?
  • Using the Hauppauge &/or MCE remote

I would say they are worth including... The Multi-Server one is probably only of interest to a limited number of users, but the others definitely contribute to the WAF (especially for those moving from MVP to NMT).

Those advanced feature are too valuable to be lost in the quagmire of obsolete posts on the forum.

Errr....ummmm... there is a bit more to setting one up fully than just that (it would be nice "if" it was that easy Wink ) off the top of my head (& I'm in a hurry so it's a quick one) you still have to setup the network source/link on the NMT, then there is setting up the display sizes & positions in NextPVR config so it displays right on your TV & there is also a bit more per-requisite required as well, most of this is covered in the Dummies guide that Martin wrote & edited quite a number of time....

Also please don't emit explaining that users need a "Linux compatible editor" to edit mvpmcx2 scripts & for them not to try the advanced stuff until after they have a stable working NMT-NextPVR environment first.

Thank you Martin.... I started to think I had totally wasted my time documenting that section & writing those scripts...... but it was only for a few seconds that I had that thought Big Grin

I'm going to be slightly un-steeb like and be as tight lipped as I can.

Would definitely agree with posts previous to mine that the list items are VERY important apart, maybe from, more than one server. Which I would think definitely goes into the (an) advanced section. However I do not believe that there is anything as concrete as a 'Dummies Guide' to hooking up your MVP/NMT with NextPVR. Currently the way the wiki looks and how it works is not for dummies.....

good luck McBainUK, it really is worth getting this bit of the wiki sorted.

[Edit] Just re-read post and think as usual I have left out vital bits of info! I would have thought that the most common problem with someone setting up an MVP/NMT is how the network is set up - firewalls/IP denials on PC's/Routers etc. That is why Martin says do not spend more than one hour on it. It should work out of the bag but so many ways that people get their home system working.... [End Edit]

hmm that is kind of it. I think a v difficult section of the wiki to write up. All hail to Martin for making it happen, to Jaggy for writing it up in the first place. And all hail to McBainUK for trying to tweak it. I really will be quiet now Big Grin

cheers

Too damn right.

Multi servers and Hauppauge remote are essentials here.

Yes, that is what I was hoping to mirror thoughts on. But what is put where!

Multi Servers - Now in my mind that is an advanced option.....? Hauppauge (or any other remote) advanced too?

cheers
