yea,i had a mix of old install of xrecord [i mean realllly old] and the new one and some other messiness i cleaned up by doing a new install...i experiment with the plugins quite alot and have been using GBPVR for many upgrades without re-installing so it was about time...also wanted to upgrade the hardware so did it and all is nice now...the dvd's play great! and even on my 1800p4 i can actually re-encode the video too with VLC better than realtime and won't need to worry about file sizes cuz at 3072k the .mpg file will be less than 4g's....Smile too bad no menus too tho..
interested in that plugin to do it with a little more automatic interface..Smile
i made 2 .dvd files and put a line to delete both mpegs before making a new one so i could delete the existing just before transcoding a new dvd..
[seems i can't start a new dvd till i delete old file, and no way to do this i could see so had to do it this way]
so i just alternate,if i have an existing movie1.dvd.mpg then i transcode the movie2.dvd and it deletes both if they exist before making the new one.
and since there's no movie2.dvd.mpg it lets me go ahead and run it.
also was wondering what method is used for your play biuttons and couldn't that be used to play the file after a delay automatically?
just wondering if it could be done or is there some 'magic' to playing to MVP?
am really enjoying the new abilities Smile DVD's at last!! lol
[next, tackling menus...lol] but would need a true 'plugin' dvd navigator with conversion on top of that so not looking to see that anytime soon..but it's actually possible..
i'll be checkin in more frequently, had a little hurricane work to do over the weekend too..
great work, love the open, modular framework this gives...almost anything is convertable as is with your plugin..

I can set it up to play after an automatic delay, or perhaps when the file size hits a certain amount. That is easy enough. Which do you perfer?

When you added the line to delete the transcoded mpeg did you still need to do use the alternate between dvd1 and dvd2 (the two dvd files you have).

As for menus... not likely. The plugin itself would become illegal since it would have to decrypt the dvd to read the menus. Can someone email me the batch they are using so I can include it in the next xrecord. Just email it to jared_dubin at yahoo.com

i prefer a timed delay, but should be user configurable for variances in hardware speed.. i can almost start play immediately, but there's some overhead before the point where a file actually starts showing up..
Yep,needed to alternate because it won't let me start the transcoding process if the end file already exists. so if i have a movie1.dvd.mpg then i can't start the batch file to transcode/delete if i click on movie1.dvd.. only if i click on movie2.dvd will it start the batch and delete the movie1.dvd.mpg..
an overwrite feature would be great, since i don't plan on saving these temp files, as this is only for play on MVP..if i want to rip i use other software to get menus and all. Smile

hmm,i wonder if it would be legal to make a VNC type remote control software for the MVP to control the host machine and play the dvd's on the host machine and just transmit the output to the MVP??
like some basic VNC hack using the remote arrows for mouse and ability to see the host desktop or locked into a specific host dvd player app...
that way it'd be just a video sender and all decoding would be done by the host dvd app.. but probably by then we'll have new hardware to play with..lol
just a thought Smile

I wrote a vnc for the mvp last week. the video would be so bad it is not worth it.

I will take a look at the time delay/file size. And fixing the need for two dvds.

was just looking at the 'stop transcoding' bat file and it looks like that should work, not sure if i tried it properly or maybe it was the wait for refresh after stopping so that the file no longer showed in the menus..will try it again to make sure...just got the movie "Crash" so i'll try it with that one..
i'm thinkin i have to start the transcoding and then after done playing it 'stop' it and that will delete the file...correct?
thanx

if the stop does the delete yes. It might need to kill the transcoding process can do it with the kill app on the xrecord page.

can't get the stoptranscode.bat to run at all ever....i looked into the skin and noticed there wasn't any bat file named for stop batch so i inserted it,still didn't work, made sure to restart recording service and all.. kept an eye on processes in case it was just exiting with error and it never runs, and it still won't start the transcode.bat file if the end file exists..
tried the stoptranscode.bat, manually supplying the movie1.dvd parameter myself and it worked fine.. but the menus just won't kick it off for some reason..
hope that helps...
i just went wireless on the MVP Smile [boy was that tricky!]
but even as is, it enables me to watch my dvd's with the MVP alone..Smile
do the help much appreciated...oh and what was the VNC remote thing you made? would love to try it out..is it that xview thingy i saw somewhere?
i figure at least it'd make active web browsing available..Smile

the vnc thing is xview. I will eventually rename it since it conflicts with tipstirs tool. I have not had a chance to test it on the MVP yet. But it seems to work. Thanks for the batch. I will see what I can do for the next release.

ahh, found some of the problem,i had my movie1.dvd in the movie folder...so i moved it to the videos folder and now i can delete the file, but i must take care to delete the .mpg file and *not* the .dvd one! Smile
the .mpg doesn't show up till i exit back to main menu and go back into xrecord, but then i can delete the actual mpg and start again..
can't wait for the plugin, it could be a single main menu button that runs the bat in the background, then waits [optionally with countdown] and plays the file, only deleting with an overwrite..[another possible 'optional' behavior]
then you wouldn't have to worry about skins at all...Smile
wondering, do any of the plugin makers get donations? Big Grin
