Steeb,

One of my first problems installing NPVR was to access it from outside NPVR client, WindowsHomeServer has built in firewall that was blocking it, I had to make a rule to poke a hole for the recording service. I can't remember if XP has this firewall feature by default, or maybe you have a firewall/antivirus etc software installed that is blocking it ?

The contact point to the NPVR server is the same as the NPVR web service <ip_of_host_where_NPVR_resides>:8866. Also, if you have accessed NEWA from another machine before the same firewall rules should apply.

At least this is how I understood it.....

Dear all,

firstly thank you!

You have collectively, in effect, done exactly what I asked Wink

Provided some background info on this NextPVR backend for xbmc and helped to clarify.

No offense meant and I understand a load of this is still in beta but this kind of stuff helps to drive in new users who may be looking at solutions to their HES (Home Entertainment Systems).

All very well to talk git etc etc BUT ultimately NextPVR has always been a Windows one and only PVR, the geeky Nix talk is great but of course makes Windows peeps scratch their heads....
Big Grin

Once again thanks all for providing a very good basis for this talk re: xbmc integration. And for putting up with me!

I am going to take a punt and try sub on the xbmc thread of this forum about my network issues before I brave another forum ie the xbmc one

That will be a whole new learning curve...

v best all and cheers

I'm sitting out, until the dust settles.

An xmbc pvr, with all the bells and whistles, based on gbpvr/nextpvr reliability, will be awesome.

But only so many hours in the day.

Well, I kinda went ahead and made some wiki edits, without first reading this thread (or the replies in the other one I posted in yesterday)! Hope I haven't buggered things up too much...

I added XBMC as a menu item under Clients, and then wrote up a sort of brain dump of what I remember doing to get it working. I have not yet gone back through it and confirmed every word (e.g. some of the XBMC locations, like "Settings|Add-Ons|Enabled", might be a little wrong), but I'd like to think it roughs it in OK. I'll see about making and annotating some screen shots. And then I'll have to figure out how to upload them to the wiki... pretty sure I've done that with PMWiki before, but it's been a long time.

Karyudo,

can't see anything buggered up there at all! You have put that page where I would have put it for now. It may be with time we may have to move it to something a bit more obvious if a NextPVR backend becomes more commonplace.... Great page. If you need help with the screenshots just ask. Should be no wider than about 550px if memory serves me right. Dang can't find that thread now! Try to keep a screenshot so that a 800px wide screen does not have a horizontal scroll for that page...

lovely wiki work and thank you for assisting Big Grin

cheers muchly

steeb

p.s. Found It!

Why I thought we worked to an 800px wide I don't know except tiredness... It was 1024 and gives some ideas as to what we can use for screenshots now. Duughhhh I am getting old and forgetful

Karyudo,

made a couple of tweaks and changes. Hope you do not mind. Nothing major! There wasn't much I could change. Really IMHO looks great. Have a look at the page history if you would like to see what I have changed. If you do not like.... revert it back!

cheers
