Thats the same thing I did with my remote also. It must be great minds thinking alike Smile or at least the most logical solution (I like the first reason Smile ).

I had not gone as far as you to start adding new buttons. Its a great idea! Maybe this weekend I will look through the docs for all the keyboard commands I can find and add a button for it.

My wife is going to love the latest version. The feature where starting multiple GBPVR is disabled will be great. I don't know how many times that darn power key must have gotten hit by the kids Smile and had 5 or more instances running.

Has anyone installed the extender with this remote (8910/9910)? Like I thnk I said before, I'm on the verge of doing that but just haven't gone that far.

The noise from the fans was to loud. I suppose I could have spent another 200-300 getting a case and fans to quite the thing down. However, I decided it was easier to throw the entire thing in the garage and run a few wires through the wall.

If the Hauppauge MVP was more stable (it has been better recently) I would have gone that route. Its serving as the link in the play room.

Question on remote placement of your htpc server and the video out -- how are you getting the video signal from your PC? Is it S-Video or other -- also how many feet are we taking about here?

I'm using S-Video to run the video and digital to run the audio. I think the two cable are 12 feet long. The digital audio is overkill right now in my opinion since the PC is not able to output anything more than 2 channel audio through the SPDIF interface. I made the mistake of choosing a motherboard that didn't support 5.1 audio over digital (I guess you get what you pay for [very little]).

I have seen some wall outlets being sold around here to send the s-video over RJ45 but again that's a future project (if ever).

There's a lot of slack in the cable right now. Basically the PC is right on the other side of the wall. Close enough that I can get a wireless keyboard and mouse to work if they are just in the right position.

I've also run two USB active extension cable through the wall and have an external USB case with DVD-RW drive inside it hooked up to one. The other is idle.

I think the zip file you originally uploaded might have gotten corrupted. Any chance you could post again? I have the older 34 button remote, so I can't learn the codes from the 45 button remote, and haven't been able to find an RMDU file for the 45 button in the regular JP1 locations.

I've been following this thread with interest, and as we are knee-deep in remotes (it certainly feels that way), I have ordered a URC-8910 off amazon.com, $25 inc. S&H (bestbuy are 40 bucks). I liked the look of the new Kameleon Hybrid 6690, but it isn't JP-1 apparently.

I'm planning on using it to control TV/ Amplifier/ DVD/ Cable Box/ MVP, so hopefully I'll be able to make myself a lead and program the thing....

Thanks for the advice!

I have the same remote, with a Sony Receiver, Panasonic DVD, Hauppauge PVR 150 and a Fisher VCR. It works. I'm not sure what has happened to my RDF file for the Hauppuage, but I'll see if I can locate it. (New computer since the last time I updated my remote.

Thanks A_Brass: It was your detailed posts that inspired me to go this route. I currently use the MVP with the 45-button remote in the lounge, the 34-button with the PVR150 in the den, and another (!) MVP with the 34-button in the bedroom; if you have hauppauge RDF files that you can share, I would be really grateful...

Thanks again!
